Re: Federal Workers got their first zero paycheck.
Most of us who work for a living despise gobment workers, especially at the 1040 level. A lot of dry eyes around the nation as the swamp idiots have to figure out how to work for a living for the first time.

The nation as a whole, who makes shit and does shit could care less about government workers. Get a fucking real job leeches.

Re: Federal Workers got their first zero paycheck.
First off, federal worker is an oxymoron.
They got a stub with zeroes yesterday and some of them posted it crying about it, possibly expecting or eliciting sympathy.
When they get their next check with money, let them post THAT and see how much sympathy they get.
I call them social parasites.

There is no budget, therefore there is no pay for leave. Furloughed is furloughed. They can apply for unemployment.

Essential employees (I'll speak to air traffic control, as that's what I know) paychecks are also ZERO, yet they have been working the entire shutdown. If an ATC takes annual leave (vacation) or sick leave (sick day) that is charged as furlough and they are not paid at all for it.

When the budget is signed, ending the furloughs, ATCs will be paid backpay for hours worked. That will be part of the new budget law. From past experience, there is no backpay for leave used.

I worked through several shutdowns over 32 years as an ATC. ATCs and other essential workers are between a rock and a hard place. They are required to work for pay that is being deferred an indeterminate period of time. If they take time off to work another job, they can't use leave, so they lose that pay. It sucks.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH:
Alan Isaacman
The People Vs Larry Flynt
"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you've heard a lot here today and I won't try to go back over it all. But you have to go back in that room and make some decisions and there is one thing I want to make very clear to you before you do. I'm not trying to convince you that you should like what Larry Flynt does. I don't like what he does. But what I do like is... that I live in a country... where you and I can make that decision for ourselves. I like that I live in a country where I can pick up Hustler magazine... read it if I want... or throw it in the trash, if that's where I think it belongs. Or better yet I can express my opinion by not buying it. I like that right. I care about it. And you should care about it, too... because we live in a free country. We say that a lot, but sometimes we forget what that means, so listen again. We live in a free country. That is a powerful idea. That's a magnificent way to live. But there is a price for that freedom, which is that sometimes... we have to tolerate things that we don't necessarily like. So go back in that room... where you are free to think whatever you want to think... about Larry Flynt and Hustler magazine. But then ask yourselves if you want to make that decision for the rest of us... because the freedom that everyone in this room enjoys... is, in a very real way, in your hands. If we start throwing up walls against what some of us think is obscene... we may wake up one morning and realize... that walls have been thrown upin places we never expected... and we can't see anythingor... do anything. And that's not freedom. That is not freedom. So, be careful. Thank you."

Tighten your belts and buck up.

At least you will get back pay.

My income and life's work was stolen "fair and square" and I have about 20 years worth of rebuilding to do, but I won't likely live long enough to have my own place ever again.

How do I know this, because I'm a non-union white straight male, and I am not eligible for any kind of help, having always pulled more than my own weight.

I really don't understand how so much "help" is available in this country to so many, yet not for me, because I have been tagged somehow with a "producer" label, and not eligible for help while I still breathe. Forty two years of paying into the system has earned me squat... I have another 10 years to go.

Well, I would offer that a very high percentage of people are "forced to work" to pay their mortgages/rent, utilities, food, clothing.

I would bet 80-90% of people on GLP couldn't afford to not be paid, they live paycheck to paycheck.

Air traffic controllers are part of the shutdown. So you're saying they should just stay home? Right now they're working with out pay. That would shut down all airports.
 Quoting: NDFarm

I am ok with that. Those who work for a living without a government safety net most of the time do not care. Get a job you can be fired at - that breeds excellence. And for gots sake, get a job that does not steal money from everyone else though taxes.
 Quoting: JuliusPerving

Shutting down all airports would put us in a recession or depression in a few weeks. Is that really what you want?
 Quoting: NDFarm

Why would the airports shut down....

The military can be used as screeners, just like in Israeli airports. It's just politics as usual...
 Quoting: DuckNCover

Reagan fired 11,000 air traffic controllers and airports not closed

...

Someone put a gun to your head and make you work? I thought the draft ended.

It sucks you won't get paid for not working? Welcome to real life. Except real life people who get laid off can't go back to the same job. Stop whining, snowflake.
 Quoting: Weyoun

No, it sucks being forced to work and not receive your regular paycheck.

I'm not whining. I retired a year ago. I'm still getting paid. Not my problem. I'm addressing some of the misconceptions. There's a big difference between being laid off and working for deferred compensation.
 Quoting: NawtyBits

No one is being forced to work. The draft ended long ago.
 Quoting: Weyoun

Well, I would offer that a very high percentage of people are "forced to work" to pay their mortgages/rent, utilities, food, clothing.

I would bet 80-90% of people on GLP couldn't afford to not be paid, they live paycheck to paycheck.
 Quoting: NawtyBits

Most of us don't work for the mafia. Having to pay mortgage doesn't justify doing mafia work.

They can go find other work to pay their mortgage. Enough is enough.

 Quoting: JuliusPerving

This. If you were an ambitious person you worked in the private sector. The lazy mouth breathers who only want a safety net paycheck go work in government. Welcome to the real world
