I read there was mass extinction event that happened in North America that killed off most of the animals and I would presume humans too. Scientists don't know what the event was. Yes, they do, they just refuse to say. It's a crustal pole shift every 3,600 years; sometimes only every 7,200 years. Why do you think all those ancient cities that have been written about no longer exist? Most of them are lying in the ocean or were totally destroyed during a crustal pole shift, like the infamous Sodom and Gomorrah. Some survive, especially if in the mountains but only remnants remain. Science tells you millions of years for this or that. They are either lying or their guessing leaves a lot to be desired. Both are true, actually. When you believe everything science tells you, you are believing their lies. Research yourself what doesn't ring true and you will find the true answer. Learn how to read ancient writings, or read those who know how read them. That's where the truth lies. Government never tells the truth about anything.
