Uh... no.

Why the 'far-side' of the moon? I'll tell you why... because we have the tech to be able to see it if it were on the Earth facing side. (proof positive it is a BS stunt- and we dare not call them on it or they will spill the beans on our lies back in the 70's)
 Quoting: Nero the Zero

Wrong. We have a probe orbiting the moon right now. It's already seen the landing site prior to the landing:
[link to lroc.sese.asu.edu]
Within the next couple of weeks it will image the site again and we will see if there's really a probe on the surface or not.

its no worse than cottonseed and maybe better, but it is cheap and they put it in everything now.

Not true. If you ate even a small amount of rapeseed oil before processing, it would kill you.

Whatever your health amounts to after eating that crap is directly proportional to how well whoever prepared it got the poisons out. They don't get it all, I used to deep fry in that crap and wondered why the deep fryer always gave me huge headaches and made me feel sick and weak.

It is TRASH oil, there's no way out of it.
 Quoting: crustalfailure

[link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)]

The name for rapeseed comes from the Latin word rapum meaning turnip. Turnip, rutabaga, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and mustard are related to rapeseed. Rapeseed belongs to the genus Brassica. Brassica oilseed varieties are some of the oldest plants cultivated by humanity, with documentation of its use in India 4,000 years ago, and use in China and Japan 2,000 years ago.[2]:55 Its use in Northern Europe for oil lamps is documented to the 13th century.[2] Its use was limited until the development of steam power, when machinists found rapeseed oil clung to water- and steam-washed metal surfaces better than other lubricants.[citation needed] World War II caused high demand for the oil as a lubricant for the rapidly increasing number of steam engines in naval and merchant ships.[citation needed] When the war blocked European and Asian sources of rapeseed oil, a critical shortage developed, and Canada began to expand its limited rapeseed production. Rapeseed oil extracts were first put on the market in 1956–1957 as food products, but these suffered from several unacceptable characteristics. Rapeseed oil had a distinctive taste and a disagreeable greenish color, due to the presence of chlorophyll. It also contained a high concentration of erucic acid.

nothing in the above says it is poison or harmful?

further down I see this:

Canola oil is made at a processing facility by slightly heating and then crushing the seed.[22] Almost all commercial canola oil is then extracted using hexane solvent[23] which is recovered at the end of processing. Finally, the canola oil is refined using water precipitation and organic acid to remove gums and free fatty acids, filtering to remove color, and deodorizing using steam distillation.

does anyone know much about hexane?

I use it to soak kindling in to start fires with damp wood. That's a positive use for it.

Really the only thing it's good for is industrial lubrication and fire starting. Horrid for the human body.

There is no "dark side" of the moon. What part of the moon do you think is lit when the moon is new or a thin crescent? The far side. The far side gets just as much light as the near side. If that’s true, pretty cool.

I keep wondering though,

Why the far side?

Are we already fighting for territory, and they wanna claim it?

Which is obviously not capable of sterilizing living material instantly. This is further proof of that. The amount of radiation received from the belts depends very much on trajectory. If you don't linger in them and if you avoid the most intense regions then you've got nothing to worry about.

That was never the answer. I literally keep the answer saved in a text file which I post when the subject comes up.

Here is a plot of how much radiation the astronauts would be expected to receive given Apollo 11's trajectory to the moon, one way. Apollo had an areal density equivalent to about 7~8 g/cm^2:
[link to drive.google.com (secure)]
Less than 1 rad each way, it's harmless, the trapped proton dose from the Van Allen belts is less than a tenth of a rad (so even with the Q factor discussed below, less than a rem of VAB radiation).

By way of comparison, here is the dose you would receive in an Apollo capsule flying the same trajectory as Orion EFT-1's final orbit (though with a slightly higher perigee, SPENVIS won't let you calculate trajectories that go through the atmosphere):
[link to drive.google.com (secure)]
Here's a map of the orbit:
[link to drive.google.com (secure)]
Nearly 10 rads, with the dose almost entirely made up of radiation trapped in the belt. The Q factor on that could be as high as 10 ( [link to www.nrc.gov (secure)] ), so you could be looking at about 100 rem equivalent dose. At that dose with an acute exposure, you're looking at chromosome damage, reduction in white blood cell count, and the onset of radiation sickness within a few hours ( [link to www.atomicarchive.com] ).

So trajectory matters, as does the duration of exposure and the spacecraft's density. The NASA engineer was right; NASA could not have flown astronauts through that particular region of space safely with their old Apollo capsule. They would have had radiation sickness even after just 1 orbit, at the very least. For an unmanned test, it was ideal as a way of giving the capsule a trial by fire, which is what they called that presentation.
