Message Subject Has anyone ever built a guitar before? GLP luthier thread

Post Content
I have put together a few other guitars, by buying an inexpensive guitar that already has a good neck and body, but stripped out all of the hardware, and pickups, put in electronic shielding, and quality parts, and it sounds and plays better than some guitars that cost a couple of thousand $$.

I am jealous of people like you who can do that kind of stuff. All mods I make are done by my luthier.

Those things are really not very complicated. I could never build an acoustic, I would blow a blood vessel.

On a solid body, you just take parts out, and the new parts usually fit into the same screw holes. For shielding, you buy some copper foil, and just glue into all the cavities and behind the pickguard. And just a little soldering.

I blew a blood vessel imagining doing the things that you just said. The reason I entered this thread was because I love hearing about people doing these things that I can't do. I will continue paying to get my gear modded by others, as my act is a registered business and my accountant claims the cost of it back. If I remember correctly (from another thread), OP is a pro or a semi pro. I am a pro as well. I say this just to illustrate how differently we go about the same business. I don't understand most of the finer details of the gear that I use, the complete opposite of OP and his vast knowledge of it.
