FOOD STAMPS GONE: Good Bye SNAP - Hello "America's Harvest Box"!

No way. They won't be able to buy lobster, chips, soda. They won't be able to buy drugs instead of food. They don't want the government telling them what to eat. They just want the government giving them money with no strings attached.

A better alternative would be to provide local food warehouses that only stock healthy alternatives to be sold through the program

The only way to pay for them is through the EBT or Snap card.

These cards would not be valid for anything or anywhere else.

Consumers could shop at these places and choose foods based on their family's tastes and possible food allergy needs.

This is the way it used to be done, there was not food stamps at the time they called them commodities and the people who needed them did not fuss about the food they got because they need it.

The schools also got the commodities for lunchroom meals that were cook not freaking slop that started later.

Nowadays it would be kept better and the meals are better than what sometimes happens. Food is what food stamps are for, food as Harvest boxes is just as good and no ones staring at them when they pull out food stamp to pay. It a win, win for some, not so much for others.

Now I could so with someone bring me a harvest box, that way I do not have to go shopping. Just saying it better than shopping if I could get, of course I would buy them.

Those freeze dried meals are good, I buy them for the time I do not want to cook. Just fix them by the instructions.

I know you guys think this is wonderful, that's because you aren't physically disabled. I am. My foodstamps go to buying the healthiest fresh foods as possible. I cook everything from scratch and make it last a month.

What this plan means to take from me is this.

Items that could be included in a government-issued food box are grains, peanut butter, canned meat, canned fruits and vegetables, juice and other shelf-stable products, according to the Department of Agriculture.


I don't eat peanut butter or grains.

Canned meat? Disgusting, slimy and overall gross packed in more gross.

Canned fruits are packed in sugar and lacks nutrients that you can get from fresh fruit.

Canned Vegetables. Canned veggies are mostly gross too, lacking nutrients, flavor and texture. Stoking up cans of never eaten peas and carrots is ridiculous.

Juice. Nothing but sugar water.

My body is already fucked and I manage much of my pain and immune system through diet. This will utterly destroy my ability to do so.


I am happy for those of you who don't understand this but I sure as hell hope you count your blessings. One day, they just might be taken from you.

Though on the surface this sounds good I see a lot more complexities in its implementation.

They can’t just give everyone the same selection of food. Allergies, special medical diets, ability to store, refrigerate and prepare.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Helps cut down on fraud (selling those EBT cards for cash) and keeps taxpayer money in American hands.
It's a better deal than I would give. When it comes to taxpayer funded food assistance, it should be assistance, not a gourmet buffet. Rice, beans, pasta, milk, cheese, formula, bread, oatmeal, fruit, veggies and hot dogs or luncheon meat would be on my list of essentials. Nothing more.

I voted for Trump,but I do not agree with doing this. It's going to cost an awful lot to deliver those boxes.

It could also cause riots. There are people that will take advantage of an already inflamed people to cause bad things to happen.

What jobs do you suggest we get. I'm not lazy I showed up for work everyday in last job for year and half and get canned for because I said one thing that was absolutely true about one person's lack of work habits. There are lazy ass people out there like that but wait until you lose your job and have no resources whatsoever to work with because the assholes at the ivy league yacht club stole all your jobs and retirement and that will come soon...your ass should be laughed at and tormented because it will come to your ass, too. Do you really think Donny Trump( Ivy league asshole, yacht club asshole, Tom Brady's butt buddy, Bobby Knight's butt buddy) or Nancy Pelosi or any the trash in Washington Dc are gonna give one rats ass about you? The reason you can't hold a job might be psychological.

Steak and lobster isn't in my budget, shouldn't be in SNAP recipients budget either.

This is the problem:

SNAP benefits have gotten so plentiful that many people who would not qualify are lying to receive benefits.

Our society looks at WIC as a gimme for ALL expectant mothers and SNAP as a handout for people with children.

The system is broken.

I work with guys that make $50-$75k a year and will not get married because of the loss of benefits (SNAP, Section 8 Housing, MedCare & MediCaid).

It needs a reset.

Because of excess benefits for SINGLE mothers, the countries demographics have been skewed.

Marriages have plummeted, single parent families are now the norm and the expectancy of self reliance are minimal.

Public assistance is destroying our society and needs a complete overhaul.

You know how people talk about the fat people at walmart on scooters, i'm not trying to be mean but they grab the highest carb worst food alaways and they always have the ebt card at there side it's like the state perpetuates there obesity because they have no filter.

I think part (and only part) of the problem is perceived scarcity.

I know, personally, when I have a house full of food I eat less, because it's just everywhere. I don't feel like I'm going to miss out on anything by not eating it all.

But when there are two things in the fridge, suddenly I'm starving even if I just ate a 7-course meal.

Being poor feels like always having 2 things in the fridge, even though that EBT card provides enough for an average person to eat well.

You'd just be creating a whole separate bureaucracy and opportunity to steal and resell for all those supposedly 'running it.' They'd run it into the ground in three months!

Food banks are a good illustration of this: first, the illegals will show up and clean them out before Americans get a chance and they let non-whites run it, who cherry-pick all the best food out, stuff it into their own private vehicles and resell it in their own neighborhoods. This is rampant in the Southwest and nobody ever does anything about it.

Next problem is, ideas like this are always thought up by people living in large cities who've never traveled outside of them and they don't seem to know that most of the land mass of the USA is uninhabited! Not that I think that's a bad thing; we could easily lose half the population here to the betterment of the country. But there are times when I wonder if anybody on this forum ever gets out of Mom's basement.

In rural areas, you can drive over 100 miles before you get to anywhere that could be called a town, even a fuel stop. Low-income people in rural areas couldn't afford to move to town even if they wished, because it's too expensive to live in one, and if they're elderly or disabled, it's downright dangerous. There is no mail delivery, by the way, to most rural areas in the West; everybody has a PO box or they get deliveries from private services like FedEx and UPS - not free - so states aren't going to pay for that.

Another thing everybody seems to forget is that federal programs like this always have to be devolved to the state government because a one-size-fits-all just won't work. That's another bureaucracy. Some states don't have the money to implement an entirely new setup for one of these programs and the feds are notorious for not coming up with their part of the money. Who's going to build these 'warehouses' you're talking about and where? Do you know the feds own most of the land? You think they're going to offer theirs? Fat chance!

Illegals caused the closures of medical facilities all over the Southwest because the feds force states to treat them and then don't reimburse the states for what it costs. Obamacare closed a bunch too, that couldn't afford to set up those networks and patients could no longer afford medical care so most doctors in smaller towns closed shop and left. Bear this in mind if you tour the Southwest and something happens to you: you may have to go 100 to 200 miles to get to a hospital and you are dead meat.

I don't think this is a good idea as others has said because of the no choice aspect of it. I don't think Walmart and Kroger would be too happy with the idea either. Think of all the money they would lose if they were bypassed. It might in the end actually, hurt the economy on some level. Most people receiving them would be pissed and Trump would take all the heat as the bad orange dictator. Something he doesn't need with 2020 fast approaching.

The real reason shake it lost his job was because he didn't know when to NOT SPEAK what he thinks.

At the very least, speak it to someone who will not retaliate to such words.

If there is box money in 2019 budget, it is for commodoties people will get because of depression or war, not because the "nanny picks your food" crew won.
The concept is idiotic and would only be used for a starve off, to give the gov some optics in a bad time.
Everybody under a certain income level gets commodities, not just bs career welfare people or any certain amount of other benefits they are getting.
It will be all or nothing. We are already in the beginning of the starve or they will switch the flip, declare thier selves wise heroes and munger more money up before they start the civil unrest. We will see?

Every "America's Harvest Box" should be filled with nutritious pork roast & ham!

This doesn’t cut out EBT completely. Just a portion of it is substituted for these boxes. So they still have choices at the store to purchase whatever they want/need. I don’t know how to feel about it only because I think a lot of the boxes will simply rot. We should cut the amount people get in ebt that’s for sure. I’ve been n ebt before and tbh I got more benefits than I usually could go through.

B- Trade your ham for vegetables with someone else in the food line

How soon until we would hear sob stories on the news not about "special food issues" but picky eaters (aka spoiled little brats)? I have no patience for that nonsense.

I chaperoned a field trip to NYC several years ago, and the (wealthy) mother of a 14-year-old girl warned me that her picky daughter only eats mac and cheese and maybe Chik-Fil-A. I told her straight out that we will not tolerate such nonsense, and she will eat where the rest of us eat, whether they have mac and cheese or not. We are NOT looking for a Chik-Fil-A in NYC when we have other amazing establishments on our schedule.

I mentioned this later to another woman as we were planning a social event, who said her 7-year-old is the same way. I told her that she better knock that off, because nobody wants to tolerate that baby nonsense (and we are not providing special food just for her daughter at this event). She laughed nervously and somewhat agreed.

Anyway...

I can hear the whining now about the healthy food boxes, "my poor (snowflake) baby won't eat it." And we'll be even MORE annoyed.

Just the fact that you racist fucking cunts think this is a good idea becuase, you know, brown people right, listen you fucking racist CUNTS.... Does it COSTS this government more to pack the fuck up food and send it to 30 MILLION households a month OR print out a check........
