Havana Dismisses US Claims About Cuba's Support for Venezuelan Secret Police

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez dismissed claims made by US Vice President Mike Pence that the Cuban military had allegedly trained and supported Venezuelan secret police in a bid to silence the country's opposition, calling these allegations "gross lies" and a propaganda campaign.

US sanctions against Venezuela's bank will affect 24 million clients — foreign ministry

US sanctions imposed on Venezuela's Bandes bank will affect almost 24 million clients, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Friday.


"This illegal coercive measure will affect 23,950,280 clients (individuals, as well as state and private companies) in Venezuela," the foreign ministry said. The Venezuelan government condemned "unilateral, coercive, arbitrary and illegal measures that affect Venezuela's Bandes bank and four important financial institutions," the ministry added.

IADB cancels China meeting after Beijing bars Venezuela representative

The Inter-American Development Bank on Friday called off next week’s meeting of its 48 member countries in China after Beijing refused to allow a representative of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido to attend, two sources with knowledge of the decision said.

The sources said the decision was made in Washington on Friday at a meeting of the executive board of the IADB, Latin America’s largest development lender, after China refused to change its position.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s administration has reached its final stage and there will soon be a change in government, opposition leader Juan Guaido said,

adding that his allies have spoken with high-ranking military members about changing sides.

“They are isolated, alone, they are falling apart day by day,” Guaido, the president of the opposition-controlled National Assembly, said in Lecheria, a city in northeastern Anzoategui state, where he held several rallies with supporters over the weekend.
