If you want to listen to this, use head phones and you'll hear that the English translation is coming through the right ear. Much easier than listening to the Spanish and English together.

Communism/socialism is about the people coming together in solidarity against the invader who tries to exploit. So the socialist states when threatened with interference from imperialist intervention in their country, (as they would put it), would be much more willing to put aside their dissatisfaction with their any pre-existing dismal internal situation to fight against the enemy trying to meddle in their internal affairs.

Therefore, Trump could have made a mistake in publicly backing the opposition Guaido against Maduro. Venezuela could have ended up imploding by the end of the year, and it might still do that, but as I see it Trump hasn't done himself any favours. There will be more Venezuelans keen to support Maduro than there was before Trump opened his big mouth.

From 1984, some state agencies were gradually installed in the building, the most important of which was the Directorate of Intelligence and Prevention Services (DISIP). The building was seriously affected by a bombing in the 1992 Venezuelan coup d'état attempts and an anti-aircraft response from it. The dome was later repaired following these events. Since 2010, part of the building serves as the headquarters of the National Experimental University of Security (UNES).

As unrest grew surrounding the Nicolás Maduro government, the facilities offices and rooms were converted into makeshift holding areas for the growing number of prisoners

This is actually compulsive viewing!

A reporter from Bloomberg Philadelphia asks Maduro about his exporting oil to North America and also asks him what sort of support he's getting from Putin. Maduro starts by saying how he knows Philadelphia, and he describes one particular building there, then he says how after his Presidency, he would like to drive around America, how he like the people, and likes American culture.

He speaks of Jimmy Hendrix and Janis Joplin, and as he's speaking about all these things, the look on the face of the reporter who asked the the question is priceless!!!

At another point in Maduro's speech today he said this week he gave a 15 min interview to a US reporter from Fox news, one done in Spanish and another in English. They told him the recorded interview would be be televised in the US later on. But after the interview was finished they instantly changed their mind about televising it. chuckle

Interesting. Horrible translator, though.

Yeah, that can be problem, when it's translated . .

Here's another bit . .

“Imperialism much finish. We are anti colonialists and anti imperialists. We don’t want to defend a word of racism. We don’t want to be the slaves of the white race. One hundred years ago, it was different, some people would have undersigned that. In South Africa we had apartheid, where the black people had to sit on the other side. Racism cannot be defended, colonialism must not be defenced, no country has the right to colonialise other continents or other countries. Nobody should have colonies like Puerto Rico should be free. However the elitism and the imperialism of the United States must be rejected. But I am an admirer of the Unites States. We have relations, multiple relations, I only stopped the diplomatic relationship with the government of Donald Trump . . . “

There is much to love about the United States, but also much to hate. The conduct of my own country in the Pacific leaves much to be desired. Unfortunately, as resources around the world continue to be deplenished, things are going to become harder for everyone.

Yes, the clambering for resources will only increase, and with it the strife.

Yes, I can translate.... he said that anyone protesting and causing "vandalism" (like setting tires on fire) will get a 20 years jail time
 Quoting: Spanish_guy

Twenty years in a Venezeulan prison? That's a death sentence.
 Quoting: OceanMan

So is what the translator says there wrong?

Here . .

[link to youtu.be (secure)]

. . .the translator says that Maduro is saying . . .

cases of vandalism will be investigated and I want twenty years maximum prison sentence in those cases where human beings are killed or maltreated"

That's different from what you say. I'm presuming you're spanish speaking (from your name) but the translator says something different from you.

I've heard that Venezeulan prisons can be pretty bad, I doubt that anybody would see through a twenty-year sentence. But I don't really know...

Yeah, for sure. But my question was for Spanish Guy (who you were replying to) because he said that Maduro was saying that he wanted 20 year prison sentence just for acts of vandalism (burnin tires, etc) . .but at the link I gave, to the video of Maduro speaking, the English translator doesn't say that.
