Over and over again US media outlets have specialized in making the claim that Venezuela was the "jewel of Latin America" before they elected Hugo Chavez in 1998 and that his election marked the country's downfall. On the 20th anniversary, in part 1 of this Venezuela primer, of his first taking office on February 2, 1999, we look at what led up to Chávez
Quoting: Pacifica At 3:30 this guy says the price of oil in the 1990's got as low as $8 per barrel. This is completely untrue. What else is untrue in this video? Many places quote the $8 per barrel figure for the late 1990s (when Chavez came to power) not just that video.
