Karma does not exist. If it did, it would not be brainwashed and/or drafted soldiers who pay the karmatic toll. It would be the controlling elite who underlie those soldiers that would suffer most of the negative karma. Yet the controlling elite continue to flourish generation after generation.

The concept of karma was pushed by the ruling class as a way to reduce rebellious elements in society. Karma lets the downtrodden feel better about their terrible situation by imagining that the controlling elite who are responsible for their plight will suffer negative karma. This delusion is harmful, because it may lead to inaction.

Some people actually believe that "The bad guys will get theirs in the end, so there's no need to take action ourselves." That kind of thinking only helps the bad guys.
