In a confidential location at sea near Melbourne, Florida, explorers and treasure recovery experts have found an ancient Peruvian funeral mask which they think is evidence of a sunken treasure worth a cool $4 billion.

The treasure allegedly went down with a Spanish ship sailing from Cuba to Spain in 1715 was wrecked in a hurricane and researchers working with Seafarer Exploration Corporation are calling their potential find, “the richest archaeological discovery of our time.”

A News 6 video featured in a report on Clickorlando.com shows reporter James Sparvero interviewing Army Ranger and MIT adjunct professor Dr. Mike Torres - who has searched for this particular shipwreck for the past 11 years. Following what he calls the “debris trail”, professor Torres claims the ancient mask was found washed up on a beach and is “Inca”, originating in Peru.

Torres also thinks the Spanish stole the mask from a “very special” tomb because while it’s mainly made from copper, gold, and silver, i... more at link

Sweet! I love me a good sunken treasure ship story! If true I wonder how the claims will be handled...

I would anonymously take a few gold bars and launder them into money.then I would anonymously give the state the coordinates and a relic and tell them have at it.
Spain will definitely get involved and the government, will take years to get your pittance.

Simple... governments (Spain, US, et al) will claim it; anyone with Inca DNA will claim it; all sorts of groups out to save the planet will file for injunctions to leave it where it is and the treasure hunters will go broke paying lawyers.

Cool story, BUT a few items do not add up...

Creepy Indiana Jones Wannabe dude wearing the rubber gloves and wearing a parka lined jacket?? In Florida??? WTF with the rubber gloves, is he an amateur doctor performing prostrate exams as a sideline??? HJ's in the parking lot to pay for scuba supplies??

He mentions 'gold plated' mask. Gold plated in the ancient world? No buying it but I do love the story and hope someone finds the lost treasures..

Anyone know of the Megalithic stone work that could not have been manufactured or carved by the Inca or Egyptians? The stone, granites and basalts even have cutting marks that look like they were shaped by a diamond sawblade-NOT bronze chisels and hammers. We're talking lost high tech, people. No way could the cultures 4000-6000 years ago do this. This was done much before that, 9000-12,000 years before, and was lost only after a great cataclysm.

One piece found washed up on a beach...

so.....a little over 300 years of getting meandered around through oceanic currents helps pinpoint a location...

....yay...it's somewhere underwater on Earth....good to know.

Yup, maritime and salvage laws are really confusing and are based on so many variables. There is no doubt that depending on how close to international waters the treasure was found at least 3 countries will have a semi solid claim to it. Along with the discoverers of course. I can easily see this taking years in court with literally millions of dollars in lawyer fees. But if it is worth 4 billion, a few million is nothing. Will be keeping my eye on this one.
