Yes we have a cupboard above the fridge that is only 12" tall, but 24" deep. Great place for #10 cans and vacuum sealed rice.

-----------

For some strange reason, I never think to stand on a chair to access that cupboard.

I don't know why 1dunno1

Another topic we should try...

If you steal something from somebody that they needed to survive...It would be no different that putting a gun to their head & pulling the trigger.

If you steal the food or medication that their children needed to live...you have just murdered their children!

I don't think we should steal anything from anyone. At least for myself I have no intention. That's the purpose of prepping - we have our own stuff. Even if I got down to very little - that's why I will have lighters and cigarets and whatever to barter with. No stealing on my part.

Yes, I believe that would be a form of murder - you are right. I am curious what others think. If you have children, would you be willing to steal from another family with children? I don't think any of us "regulars" have children, do we? I'd like to know from that viewpoint what parents would do.

Of course there will be thieves trying to get what we have and that's not acceptable, if we are capable of preventing it.

I have 3 children, all grown and moved out.

The school district where I worked is in an impoverished area. Over 90% of the students are on the free lunch program. For many of them, the only decent meals they eat are breakfast and lunch at school.

One weekend at the school serving preschool through grade 3, thieves broke into the kitchen walk-in freezer and cleaned it out. Truckloads of food.

Stealing from the mouths of babes. Disgusting.

I was talking about children in the home - that situation. I have an adult daughter not in my home any longer.

To steal that food from a school - sometimes I wonder how low some people will go, and then I read or see something even lower, like that.

I live in an impoverished area, as well. Once a rich area til logging went down.

There are people so low they will do anything, including stealing from us, even if they don't need it. We have to have this in mind.

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
Yesterday I went to Walmart, and my knees have gone so bad over the past ten days or so, that I literally had to ask for a chair! Embarrassing. So I was literally unable to get everything on my list. Sent helper today to finish it.

Fortunately, Walmart had butane this time, and he purchased more for me.

Someone gave us the idea recently to tie coffee into filters, with dental floss, and make a cup at a time. I like this idea as some of the other ways, like pouring water through a filter with coffee, makes the coffee come out much cooler than the hot hot I want every morning, so helper today picked up the right filters and the dental floss so I can try the method. Looking forward to it!

Of all things he walked through the sale aisle on his way to butane, and found a frost cover for windshields that was half price, only $7. I'd been wanting one, so that was serendipitous!

Thank God for this helper - since my body refuses to do some of the simplest things! Hoping it is temporary.

---------

I have no intention of it...but we all know that there are those that will.

I've talked with some, and they accept no responsibility that their actions will murder somebody.

Yet when I reverse it & ask them if somebody stole something from YOU that you needed to survive...well now, that's a different story (to them).

I don't understand how some folks can be so mentally weak (or maybe "metally shallow" might be a better term).

Yes, apparently so. Just tie enough coffee into one filter with dental floss, to make the size of cup you are using, and pour in hot water. I'm looking forward to trying it - and that kind of filter, the basket shape, is very cheap. The triangular ones my coffee maker requires, not so much.

My friend who knows more about lupus than just about anyone suggests I see about getting injections of hyaluronic acid to lubricate the joints. I see my PCP tomorrow and will be asking for a referral to an orthopedic surgeon for this. I know hyaluronic acid to be great stuff - it's what I have to use for eye drops, as well.

The braces wouldn't stop the pain, unfortunately.

I might even ask about that injection for my left hip - everything is going kerfunkey - but that's lupus for you.

Completely lacking in integrity and morality, among other things. I am shocked to know so many would willing do such a thing. That's terrifying for those of us who hope to manage alone and sheltering in place.

Why did these people say they are not preparing for themselves, but would simply steal? What is the justification for not having their own "stuff"?

So important we don't let others have any idea at all of what we are doing. I'm fortunate in that. The only person who knows anything at all about what I am doing is my helper, and I have reason to trust him. Of course if HE came to me and needed something for his daughters, I would help him and I am sure he knows this. I don't think he would steal anything from me, but I would share what I felt I could, and give him ideas where he might find more, but NOT by stealing from someone else, which I doubt he would do, anyway. Although, if I try to think of this from the viewpoint of my daughter still being young and at home - no, I still would not steal, but I would find ways to feed her something!

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
I want to reiterate what JD said about being on guard even now.

We are getting very close to a dark event - of course we don't know for sure how it will start, but could be grid down.

Whatever the case, we are so close as to be almost in it - almost in the soup, and anything we have on hand may be all we can acquire in the time allotted.

Time to be on guard is, I think, correct. Be watchful. Don't have anything sitting out in your kitchen prior to stowing away, in case you have a visitor with curiousity. Put prep items out of sight immediately.

Don't let anybody know what you are doing. If you have already done so, try to think of a natural way of walking it back. As I said in a much earlier post - there was once someone who knew what I was doing. I later learned this neighbor who pretended to be a friend was actually a thief, with a number of thieves living with her and visiting her. I would have been literal dead meat in a hurry. I was able to mention casually one time that all the food I had purchased to save had to be used one month because I didn't make it to town that month. Fortunately I have since moved elsewhere and no longer have any contact with her.

Really be careful, people - JD is right - this is already time and past time to be ready, but to not let anyone know you are ready. Keep everything out of sight, even in the garage or wherever you have it. Don't leave anything in plain sight but your ordinary items. No extra batteries or oil lamps or anything at all that a person might wonder about.

I might even be suspicious about visitors who had not come around for some time, and suddenly reappear. And don't let any strangers in your house - that would be a huge NO-NO.

Just be careful, people.

They mock preppers...yet say they would steal if in need.

We've seen examples of it in this thread.

I've seen examples in real life (well I would just break a store window & take what I need to survive). Yet they wont buy it before hand (now).

Mentally & morally shallow!

What frightens me is how many of them there are! Close friends and family members have said shit like this to me.

Every last one of them knows I would shoot to kill anybody who broke into my house, even before I know who they were.

I'm very fortunate in never having joined a social media - not MySpace nor any that have followed. My name does not come up on line, nor in the places we see sometimes on here that we should check. Doesn't come up at all, thank God.

Of course I have said almost everything right here in this thread, plus my attitude toward a number of things in other threads, so if I were tracked down from here - wow! Bad, bad news, but I don't think it is likely. My ISP indicates I am in another city far from where I actually live.

This is truly horrific - I cannot understand mocking preppers, yet planning to steal!! Why do they mock - they don't believe the need will ever arise?

There was a warning on one of the videos I posted last night about not letting your dogs bark as they may sound like dinner to the desperate. I cannot prevent my dogs from barking when they hear sounds - that is their job - they do this without my having taught them. One especially, the younger one - works all day long. She will not rest until night, when I have closed all the blinds and life is quiet. Then finally she will sleep. She has chosen to be a working dog, and I am thankful for this, as I get instant warning of anything or anyone outside. However, it won't stop when people are marauding - this is very, very worrisome.

Still trying to get my head around mocking preppers while planning to steal. Can't "get" that mindset.

Do these people you mentioned have weapons?

Of course when they decide to go outside and start stealing, they may not live long - because outside is exactly where we do not wish to be! There will be all kinds of trouble out there, and ideally the worst of the worst will shoot each other, getting them out of running to steal from us.

Yes. And lazy.

People that are accustomed to let someone else do the work, yet expect to reap the rewards.

I know plenty of them. Some are family members. They can't be bothered to come and visit, but will call when they need to borrow a truck or some tools.

I'm sure they expect to be knocking on my door when things go bad.

Well, you can't get to my door when the gates are locked. And they will be.

Wish I had a gate. I do actually have alarms I can set out, for example to tell me if someone is sneaking toward my deck. No place in front to put one - oh wait - wonder if I could fasten one to my car. That would warn me about the front door. Need another for near the garage door. Have to get three different kinds to have three different sounds so I know where the issue is, and if it is in more than one place.

I've never worn a holster but I have one. Maybe I'll find a pistol laying alongside a road some day to put in it. :) Seems like I might need one. Hope one falls off someone's car, the same way the only two weapons I had fell off my car one day when I was going target shooting. Laid them on top of the car while I was putting in the dogs and a picnic, forgot them. I don't know where they fell off, because I went back along my route and couldn't find them. Someone became very lucky that day, apparently. :)

Wish none of you had told anyone you prep, but no doubt there were people you wanted to warn so they would prep themselves. Unfortunately, it backfired.

I sign all karma given. Would that those giving it to me followed suit.
