*KTee, do not throw out any warm clothing - you will need it. And everybody needs wool blankets, as well. I have a fondness for hot water bottles. Get at least one non-electric water purifier - the big ones that do at least a gallon at a time. Get extra filters for it.

Never getting rid of the warm clothes or my woobies and I have an AlexaPure. Need to get more filters.

We were able to get a generator and a chainsaw this time around. Hurricane season is coming up and God knows what else. Going to try to protect my freezer foods for as long as possible.

I'm going to have a heck of a time with the growing part cause I can kill a silk plant. I'm doomed. lol

I decided on the great wall of tomatoes banana2

I have a ton of dry pasta, garlic is growing...and chives...So tomatoes, basil, and thyme should give me the most to eat.

And hot peppers to make salsa with. (better grow some cilantro too).
 Quoting: Mental Case

I love cilantro. I grow it year round.

I now have 1 batch gone to seed, 1 batch going to seed, and a fresh batch starting.

I always let it go to seed because the blossoms attract bees and the seeds are so easy to harvest.

I'll never have to buy cilantro seed (coriander) again.

I just cut some fresh for dinner tonight.

I planted some cilantro seed (coriander)...but it didn't sprout :(

Tonight is gonna get to 34 degrees :(

I'm gonna try to cover my tomato plants & basil with buckets...hopefully they wont get nipped too bad...dammit!

I think tonight is gonna be miller time...don't be surprised if I get on here & slur my typing.

Sometimes, they take awhile to sprout. The cold, wind, rain don't seem to bother them once they do.

I have grown cilantro in the heat of summer and dead of winter (25 degrees). It is just about the only thing I can't kill LOL. 93 here now, supposed to be 98 tomorrow.

We typically have 2-3 nights around 25 every year here in Dec-Jan.

I can remember only 2-3 times in nearly 35 years it got down into the teens. That tears things up around here, because nothing is built for it. Pipes breaking, etc.

Welp, I broke open the TANG!

(yup...the astronaut drink).

DANG! It's as tasty as it was when I was little :)

And considering I put some vodka in it...it's even better!

But I took a few sips before the vodka just to remind me of childhood...and it did! banana2

Some of the 'survival food packs' I have here include some sort of 'energy drink'.

I haven't checked, but I'd guess they are 98% sugar and 2% food coloring.

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
Hello, all. Thank you for your concern! I do read here, even if not up to posting.

I spent a week ill, with such incredible back pain I feared it was the symptom mentioned in the virus. Over that by a few days and fell and broke my arm a week ago tonight - Thursday night - and waited about five days hoping for relief as in a sprain, with no luck.

Wanted very much to avoid any health care facility, obviously, but gave in on Tuesday morning and went to the ER. Sure enough, left radius broken. They put on a plaster splint and said to see the ortho and get a cast in a week or so after swelling goes down. That's unlikely as I only left the splint on about thirty hours. Hurts too much and prevents too many normal motions. Only had three casts in my lifetime and removed all three.

Typing is uncomfortable, but manageable, so I wanted to check in. Sea Island Cotton, thank you, sweet person, for your concern! I'm still trying to plant, though not getting far. I do have potatoes coming up in three buckets, with peas not yet up. Planted a good number of tomatoes yesterday, to raise until large enough to put into Kratky containers for fall and winter.

Mental Case, I feel sure you have little in the way of preps and this is disturbing. You only had one jar of Tang and it was ready to hand, rather than packed away with other preps - this is a hint. How long could you manage to eat? Six months? Three? Would like to see you have at least two or three years, and that means everything, not two or three things. Please be aware and conscientious about what you will need.

Time to rest the arm. God bless each of you and keep you well and safe.

So good to hear from you Pooka~
I have been offline for various different problems.. mainly I lost 2 of my elder fur babies back to back.
I will be sending white light for your healing. Broken anything is no fun.

My fight with UPS is finally over and can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Prayers to all.

Pooka...I've had some luck with ALEVE when it comes to back pain...much better than advil!

As far as preps go...I'm not even down to my preps yet (except the tang). I haven't been to a real grocery store in 2.5 months...only a convenience store for a loaf of bread or mustard. And I still have about 20 rolls of TP before I go into my prep stash for TP...So I'm sitting much better than you might think.

Edit...I did use a pound of white beans & a can of spam from my stash...once they were done I dumped in a can of bushes baked beans & let simmer for another hour. But that isn't even a dent in my stash.

Your pets, don't forget them for FLEAS.

My fav site for FLEA CONTROL & FLEA KILL OR TOGETHER IN ONE PILL.

Nitenpyram, a US FDA approved adult flea control, readily available as a
NON-PRESCRIPTION, OVER THE COUNTER, NON-CONTROLLED substance.

Lufenuron, a US FDA approved flea controller , readily available as a NON-PRESCRIPTION, OVER THE COUNTER, NON-CONTROLLED substance.

Cannot find this on Amazon. I think the drug makers are scrubbing the generics that are over the counter.

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
People, have you been following the weekend's events? This is moving us in a new and ugly direction. God help anybody living in a city.

By now it should be apparent to all that we have to be and remain prepped, because flak is coming from every direction. Our own citizens and civil employees turning against even the quietest and most home-body among us - did you see the thread about people standing on their own porch being shot by rubber bullets because they didn't run off their own porch into their home the moment ordered to by LE? This is not acceptable.

China and Russia each have their own designs on this country, and covid-19 is far from over, but should flare crazily about two weeks after all the rioting without wearing protection.

The fact that this is an election year alone would be enough to put us all in serious "prepared and quiet" mode, yet that hasn't even come into effect yet.

Somebody please green pin this thread to the front page on Monday - more people need to be aware of the issues of preparedness if they want to survive and prosper, or at least to survive in the immediate future, and beyond, and prosper again at a later time.

MC, I worry about your preps - I don't think you are prepped for any length of time - I've said this before and feel no differently despite your "reassurances". Hope you are the only person here with so little, and that you will rethink your position, put on your PPE, and go shop for what you can.

A side note - a friend in Oklahoma said on Friday that a week ago their area Walmart was chock-full, well stocked, and a week later was nearly empty. Be aware of such things - get what you can while you can. If you see a store well supplied with everything do not assume that is the new normal and no rush to purchase anything. Circumstances change daily and I think this riotous weekend will have made major changes, again.

Recently I filled what seemed like the last box I could find room for, and was impressed that I had enough food put away. However, I had already ordered some things which have continued coming in, which will necessitate one final box, goodness knows where.

There are categories to acquire and prep in addition to water and food, which are our first requirements. If you believe you have enough food put away, it's time to look into everything else, such as vitamins and other supplements, hygiene products, tools, books, medical supplies, warm clothing and blankets, auxiliary locks, longer screws in hinges of outside doors to prevent them being kicked in, and anything else you feel led to acquire or think you should in general.

Of course in this season growing is the major effort - grow everything and anything you can, and prepare to can, dehydrate, put up by any means you have available or can acquire or even borrow. Prepare to be growing as much as you can in winter, as well, indoors. Please look into the Kratky method, which I have mentioned before. This could save our lives and at the very least our nutritional status.

This is a hard Sunday morning, looking at the damage created through the night. Let's take it seriously and look to our own futures in light of all that is going on in this world today. Stay safe and well!

Someone from this channel, a reader or contributor, is giving me red every week, sometimes with "sweet" words and sometimes not. Red karma person, have you no intestinal fortitude? Why don't you have enough to sign your karma? Sneaking around - no respect. I don't care about your karma but I do care about your lack of integrity - not good for you to keep up such sleazy ways. Sign what you have to say, so we can all see who you are and figure out why you are doing this.

Friends, here is what I have warned about for months and months. Arizona will be under martial law within the next hour!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you believe that will be the only state? Surely you josh yourself!

Please focus on the warning I have repeatedly given in connection with this event: EVERY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBER PATROLLING OR INTERACTING WITH THE PUBLIC IS GOING TO OVERREACT FOR SOME PERIOD OF TIME UNTIL THINGS SETTLE A BIT AND THEY LEARN WHAT THEIR LIMITS ARE. Do not go out of your home during this period. Last night a couple were shot with paint balls for standing on their own front porch by police. Do you believe the National Guard will be equipped with paint balls? Again, don't josh yourself.

If you do not have everything you need in your home or wherever you plan to try to ride this entire thing out, go right this second and get whatever it is, then get home and stay there.
