My parents dealt with drinking water issues after the 1994 Northridge earthquake in So Cal.
They were told the city water was not safe for consumption.
They had to bring jugs to the National Guard water trailers to get potable water. This went on for months.
A good reason to store lots of potable water. The cost of some food-grade drums may seem excessive, but having them full reduces the urgency of thirst.
Quoting: Crunch62 you can find drums on craigs list for cheap Quoting: godblessya! What is the guarantee they are safe for potable water?
