Even radio receivers have been historically confiscated by totalitarian regimes such as the Soviets and the Nazis. Under those governments you could only get radios that tuned into the 'proper' stations. Interestingly enough, the Soviets licensed hams but they were always under heavy scrutiny. The problem of being able to make your own equipment was always one of these idiotic regimes.
Scrolling through that link, the DX-394 has pretty good reviews on eham.net and is a pretty good price, the DX-100 and the Hallicrafters get beat up pretty bad in the reviews.
Quoting: Lowkey Cyberpunk Supposing I did get a DX-394, what all has to be also acquired? Make an antenna, get a microphone, umm - what else? I'm just wondering if the overall bite is worth the taste.
