Are you aware you can get water up and over a hill with no pump?

----------

Yup, just as long as the syphon hose is lower on my end than the source end.

Also, an appropiate sized ram pump if you have a creek nearby.

I was gonna have a large container to have a decent water pressure gravity fed inside.

If your well is less than about 75 feet there are the old style handpumps. Some of the new ones are functional.

Anyone figured out how to rig up a windmill to fill the large container? I have put a lot of thought into my fluid requirements. It would be wise to learn many ways to have drinkable water.

I have been under an ip ban. I could read but not post. Hey mods, ya'll know that frustrates the good folk that don't make waves, right? Lol. I know it is necessary. Just a shame the few mess things up for the many.
I am doing Ok. Can't complain...much. Not enough hours in a day now.
Glad to hear you are working on your water storage. Should at the top of everyone's to do list.

Large tarp + rope (550 paracord) = shelter!

I know this has been mentioned before but I though I would toss it back out there because it's so easy.

I threw a large tarp & 50 yards of 550 paracord in my truck & it can make me a shelter in 5 minutes.

It's so easy...a caveman could do it!

There are websites where you can earn points to redeem for gift cards for Walmart, Target. Amazon, and Ebay to name a few. Also, Kroger usually has good sales and 15% off your first purchase. Free shipping at $35. They also own Vitacost.

Largest pipe at the bottom, progressively smaller pipe to the top. The weight of the water in the bigger pipe pushes water uphill. It helps if there is a bit of an incline for the back end of the big pipe. It is similar to a ram pump but isn't force fed like a ram pump. The windmill or waterwheel could feed it.

Here is a tip to go with that. Instead of tying the paracord in the grommets (they tend to rip out in the wind) place a smooth rock about the size of a golfball or large nut such as a hickory nut on the tarp. Tie the cord around the object on the opposite side of the tarp. The tarp is sandwiched between rock and cord. Cinch cord tight enough so it can't slip over the rock. This works well when your tarp is larger than what you are covering requires.

I saw that in a video in recent months. Makes good sense considering the varying quality of tarps and grommets and sewing. Something rounder than a rock would be good - any "corners" or "edges" on rocks could damage the tarp. A golf ball or something similar would be perfect.

My esteem for you grows from moment to moment. Yes, this is the solution that I've got in storage. Pvc pipe with an end cap that has a check valve with the spring removed. Add enough rope and it's a quick way to get hydrated. At some point I hope to build a "hockey puck" pump and see if it's any good.

What about a water-wheel?

Make the buckets on the water-wheel tip & empty out into a container/trough.

There is an abandoned house nearby that has a tower for a windmill. A well planned sortie after we go WROL would make a difference for a number of people at least. With a decent reservoir everyone could have as much water as they might want. It is people like us who make life possible for everyone else.

You are so kind, thoughtful, and amazing! Wish we were neighbors - truly I do.

Must you wait until WROL before "appropriating" the abandoned tower? Perhaps if it moved sooner . . .

Smart to be preparing so!

We are at risk right now of so many different possibilities it's almost impossible to consider them all at once. We don't know from which direction troubles will come, nor what cloak they will be wearing. My first concern is that everyone be prepared to stay indoors for some period of time, because we don't know what might be outside. Could be anything, at this point. Biological warfare, dirty bombs, nuclear war, islamics gone wild, grid down, anything.

What we do today may have great effect on how we survive tomorrow.

Do you have a very warm sleeping bag? How is the sleeping going?

If there is any one spot in the world that is likely to start WW3 it is the strait of hormuz!

20% - 25% of the worlds oil is shipped thru that narrow strait every day. Look at it on a map & you will understand.

That is a great thing to do!

I live without certain things every so often to learn how to deal without.

I went a few years living without AC and hung out in the basement alot...they say one thing you never want to do is lay in direct contact with the ground (or basement floor) because it will suck the heat right out of you.

Well, I was hot...so I laid down on the basement floor & the heat was sucked out of me banana2

However after doing that for a while I started developing a cough...so I stopped & the cough went away.

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
The past two days have set heat records for these dates and believe me, it was horrible for someone made ill by sun and heat! I would have loved a basement floor to lie on.

The hottest day, near 90 F, helper and I had to be outside, trying to arrange a soaker hose among planters. Horrible. I wasn't physically able to do much, and she couldn't "get" the instructions I was giving, and it was awful for both of us. It's still not done right, so Monday we will try again.

I am concerned about what may be coming in our air after this awful ME thing goes wild. We have to be thinking about possibly covering our gardens so that food will still be edible, and water sources that begin in the open air - for example a city reservoir, always uncovered, which is a crime in itself, far as I'm concerned, will have collected whatever comes out of the air, and then flows right through our pipes into our kitchens, bathrooms, and laundries.

Being "prepared" means a constant watch on everything, unfortunately, because we do not know the directions from which troubles may come.

I suppose it's possible some form of diplomacy might stop what is about to happen, but it seems very unlikely at this point.

Please be considering all these things - if you have planted food in the ground, think of how you would cover it to keep nuclear materials or biologicals off your vegetables and fruits.

Think about how you are going to breathe if mess is in the air, and your family - what about the children, who would be most affected, along with us older ones.

Heads on a swivel seems a trite saying by now. We need something better and more pointed - suggestions?

A fan pointed directly on you will do wonders! But you have to be in shorts & a T-shirt (or no shirt). Keep a wet washcloth handy & rub it on your arms & legs to wet them...you will actually get cold with the fan on you.

Put a fan (pointed inwards) in your bedroom window as soon as the sun goes down, and the bedroom will cool off in 3 minutes.

And there is always a cool shower if necessary.

That's why I did without AC...to figure these things out.
