Whoaaa!!!! All that is well within Crunch's wheelhouse - he does everything and more! Crunch, how about that? Got access to the barrels?

Well, I have one steel drum that might work, and three plastic ones (but they contain my water storage).

So...no.

But I do have a bunch of empty plastic jugs in the 4-5 qt size (think motor oil) that I could probably rope together and top off with a couple of pallets.

We got this. ;)

Thank you so much for this! We've had several people inquiring about diabetic treatment after SHTF. People have suggested certain plants, etc. HOpe this video gives them the help they need.

Very thoughtful of you! Blessings on your head!

I am joining this thread at Pooka's invitation. I have 31 years of experience in preparedness and response, having worked previously as a firefighter/paramedic in multiple jurisdictions around north Georgia. I also hold a master's degree in Emergency Management. I currently still work in a semi-preparedness capacity but in a much more behind the scenes way. I left field response at the end of 2002. All this being said, I make no claims of being anything approaching an "expert". There is always tons to learn in this field. I hope to review this thread soon and contribute where I can. Thanks, Pooka.

Congratulations! I love it~! Was just thinking about you and them - yesterday I went through my seeds and found a true treasure I had totally forgotten - heirloom Scarlet Runner Beans!! I haven't any place to plant them which they could climb up, but I have two hanging baskets in front and they can surely dangle themselves and intertwine that way. As they become too long, I will pick up the ends, wind them around a chain, and let them grow downward again! Just put them in water to soak overnight a few minutes ago!

Do yours have the beautiful red flowers yet?

Just a thought , this is marketable too , especially for those who reside in flood prone area's , they may not find boating interesting , but to have one of these as a safety measure should a flood come to their area , is worth it.

I'm thinking Florida and places like that.

If you have the skill why not use it to get what you personally need for your own survival.

Love the photos! Thanks!! Leaves curling looks like they need quite a bit more water.

The beans will surprise you. Until you become accustomed to spotting them, they look just like the vines, pretty much. Once you have spotted a couple, it will become much easier to see them. They are generally behind leaves and new blossoms and are just growing themselves long, very quietly. :)

I'm jealous - loving seeing them! Hope the roots in containers are adequate to support all the beans the plants wish to make, which is more than you'll believe, if it all works correctly. I've never tried in containers - don't even know if they will work in the hanging baskets, but I just have to try.

Thank you for sharing!! I might suggest you stand in front of the plants and just look at them. Just look closely and see what you see.

Just a couple of modifications to the second last vid.

I would use marine varnish on those boards to ensure a longer lifetime.

With the hole in the middle I would cut another drum in half and place it in the hole , using the other half as a hinged lid.
This would if done well , provide water proof containment of goods you didn't want getting wet and also a place to put a small table on top for a work area.

I would also think about making a cage for the outboard to stop junk being pulled into the motor.

Another issue that would concern me in the southern waters is water snakes and I would put some sort of impediment to them just sliding on board.

Slugs. SLUGS. We have SLUGS!!! Everywhere - even unexpected places. I threw away my Hostas because slugs ate them to the ground every time they came up. Lovely plants but not worth tearing my hair.

Gophers I've had a few - not a lot. Slugs - oh Lordy! And now somebody has gone and brought in snails! Now snails turn up in pots and planters and on everything.

If your containers have drainage holes in the bottom, no worries about overwatering. Takes a long time to soak them enough - all the first at least two or three gallons is just run-off til the soil is moist enough to hold the water. I have three large planters on the ground in front and two hanging baskets. Takes me a good 45 minutes to water them enough that the run-off stops and they start holding water.

Here's a secret someone told me last year, just a month too late to use it. Place sanitary napkins in the bottoms of hanging baskets and other planters that won't hold water long. Get the kind with no gel in them. This will help the roots stay watered longer. You can bet my hanging baskets are sporting feminine comfort products this season! LOL Hidden, of course, between matting and soil. Hoping this works very well.

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
People, in case you are not following the war threads, things look very poor in the ME even tonight. Remember that there are plenty of muslims right here among us in the US with bad plans to go along with what happens over there.

In addition, Guaido has officially asked the US for military help in handling his country, where there are Chinese and Russian agents and military already present.

Please, please tell me you have what you need, already in place. Crunch, I know you are in good shape, and I'm very thankful for that. For some of the rest of us, I don't feel so relaxed. I've done what I can for myself at this point, so if it goes wild weasel now, neither I nor my girls will starve within the next month or two.

Please, friends, bear in mind Crunch's suggestion SA SA SA Situational Awareness. We don't know what will happen right in our own cities and schools and hospitals and parks and neighborhoods. SA constantly.

Nope, no fearmongering here. I have always believed in being prepared, whatever the situation. How stupid would we be if we knew something was coming and did not prepare for it? We buy auto insurance, do we not? And never, ever plan nor expect to use it. An old, old saying I have often thought of: "A stitch in time saves nine." So please stitch up those preps, and be ready for anything. We are facing a lot, including grid down, food shortages, fuel shortages in bringing food to market - on and on.

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
I read your last post and preparedness is essential in these uncertain times.

For all disasters there are common factors that no matter which type of disaster occurs , they will occur also.

So for the purpose of zeroing down on primary issues in these events , perhaps identifying those issues and looking at sustainable management methods for such an event.

My first thought on this is loss of power.

It will apply in flooding, wind issues , local chaos or insurgent issues and well as earthquakes and any other disaster that can be thought of.

It is also the primary facilitator of our modern environment and should it go down , a portion of our issues will be in adjustment to it's loss. By that I mean not only the inconvenience but the psychological effect upon all generational levels.

So POWER LOSS

Any more thoughts on power or other primary issues common to all disasters?
