Perhaps many will now be considering the future and purchase yaupon trees - we can hope! I don't expect to be around long enough to make the purchase worthwhile.
Pooka, I don't know how long it will take my coffee tree to produce. If I get far enough ahead on chores, I may plant root clippings to make more coffee trees for my greenhouse.
For over 30 years I have ground my own beans daily. Used to buy them from Trader Joes, but now Wally World has coffee beans at a price that blows away Starbucks and the other expensive brands. It is no more expensive than ground coffee and way better.What is your preferred brand and flavor from walmart?
Fearing a grid down situation, I bought a small MANUAL coffee grinder as a back up. Good planning. Wouldn't it be just the worst to be stuck with no coffee to drink and no way to grind the beans? Actually I have no question I would be resourceful, and you as well. If nothing else, I'd put the beans in a nut chopper, or in a bag of some sort to hit with a hammer. There WOULD be a way to get those beans into drinking shape! LOL
BTW, speaking of addictions, I read that almost 10% of Americans are on Prozac and related meds. YIKES. If SHTF, the various types of addicts will be very dangerous. Would they be dangerous, or just severely depressed or even suicidal?
In an emergency, I think it wise to plant herbs such as poppies and MJ to provide local docs with emergency meds to treat all the nuts. Great idea!
A little over 100 years ago, docs treated many mental illnesses and depression with Laudanum (morphine in alcohol). It worked, but it left millions addicted.

So many things need people to be aware of today, in order to prepare, yet we can only carry the message, not the people.
Did you all notice the link I posted, wherein Sweden is having their citizens prepare? Very wise of the country - wish ours would do so more vigorously, and even admit the government will not be there to rescue in those times.
If wishes were fishes, we'd all have a fry, right?
