.

Thank you, Kamchatka! I actually follow her on Patreon. She is often very helpful and wise.

I have not gotten into cryptocurrency and have no plans to do so - hope this does not leave me in the dark, figuratively or literally.
 Quoting: Pooka

I'm not into crypto, either, Pooka, but I'm VERY concerned about people who don't toe "the line" being shut out from payment options. I think we're going to see it get worse and worse. Conservatives and other "undesirables" are being financially marginalized. And preppers are VASTLY undesirable to progressives.

I don't have any answers, but I need to stay very aware of the questions.

hf
 Quoting: Kamchatka

Kamchatka, remember what the Bible says? We can neither buy nor sell without the mark of the beast on our hand or our forehead. We are coming fast to that time.

Yes, conservatives and Christians are undesirable, highly undesirable and unwanted. We have our own mindset and we know Whom we follow, which is the opposite of what they want - they want to be on top, running everything, above God - can you imagine?

Did you happen to read the thread today on Walmrt not accepting cash? I had to do something else, and now it's gone. Mods or admin must have felt it was fake. I didn't get to see for myself.

Yes, life will be tougher and tougher. I hope you will keep us aware, as well as yourself, about what the questions are as they arise, and even any answers you discover.

We will be able to barter for a time, I believe, until the pay to turn us in is greater than what they can gain from bartering with us. Probably as soon as money and/or better foods are offered, we will be tossed under the nearest bus.

However, let's not lose sight - and I am assuming you are a Christian - if you are not, my apologies for the assumption, and my prayers that you will become!! Let's not lose sight of the fact that He Who is in us is greater than he who is in the world. God will look after us, will hide us under His wing, will take care of us. The Bible says He counts every hair on our heads, so He knows exactly what we need, where we are, what is going on with us. He is greater than any who would persecute us. Take no thought for tomorrow, for tomorrow has enough trouble of it's own. That's what the Word says.

I believe we prepare for the same reasons we purchase auto insurance - we don't expect to need it, we definitely do not want to need it, but we want to have it just in case we do need it. The more we see of food production drops, the more we know we bought this "insurance" for good reason.

Life is going to be tougher and tougher, I believe this fall for the beginning, though many are saying on the Fourth, next week. We just don't know how fast, nor how bad, things will be for us, but it's coming. I want this to be just another of the kazillion threads on here that make it to the Hall of Fails. Sadly, we all know it won't. We all know to our very cores that we are in trouble, our nation is in trouble, and the worst is yet to come.

Kamchatka, please keep searching and posting and telling us what you find, what you see, what you believe. We appreciate you!

So I examined all my winter gear and decided to look for warm socks. The trail led to Thorlos Extreme Cold socks on Amazon. Normally $25, got a pair for $21.14. Thickest socks ever especially in the ball of the foot and heel. They go over the calf and stay up. Life time warranty. Send em back and you get a new pair no questions asked. They are better than my merino wool socks....

Someone mentioned those yesterday - I had not seen them before. Do you get a commission when we order? LOL Did you mention them yesterday somewhere on here?

I have a severe circulatory problem and my feet become so cold they are purple and black - it's really serious as well as very painful, so I have picked out a pair I'd like to order to try out.

Anyone remember when we hit page Number One hundred? Several people wanted to write the first post on the page.

Today we reached Page 200 and I made the first post on the page, without realizing until afterward.

Let's start imagining who might have the first post on page 300 - because I think we will hit there a lot faster than we did 200! Or 300!

Time's passing quickly and life has heated crazily. The world has gone sideways, and people really need all this information we have collected.

God bless and keep us, every one.

All good, I've increased my readiness this last week in all kinds of ways. Food, seeds, heat, sanitation, sewing and, hopefully communication. I'll know Saturday about the last.

Nice, you and I know we radio operators will keep communicating long after the internet, cell towers and digital police radios go down. A simple faraday cage for the radio and an EMP filter on the antenna lead for even the worst case senarios(EMP/CME).

The physical antenna won't be hurt by an EMP. But the antenna collects the high voltages and sends it down into the radio and burns out components. The EMP filter installs just before the radio housing and sends high voltages away, while letting radio signal thru.

What is the name of this amazing thing for between radio and antenna, so that I may search and purchase? Also, does this thereby protect the radio itself, so that it is not affected by an EMP?

Love all this new knowledge, and I do believe we will be communicating, for ourselves and for others, long after other means of communication are gone.

The antenna is set up running east to west at about 20 feet right now, it's a temporary situation until I can switch to a north-south orientation at maybe twice that height. I'm gunning for a net tonight if I can hear it.

The name of the game in an EMP/CME is attenuation. Which, simply put, is a lessening of the effects. Faraday cages are the gold standard for protection but I'm thinking old metal file cabinets will provide enough attenuation to protect the equipment that I have stored inside.

Pooka,
There was posting a little while back about Tennessee getting 70,000 of a new model of AVON gas masks. AVON mask got a huge order from the gov't for that new model too.
I noticed agencies are starting to liquidate their older Scott M95 masks and the prices are in the $50 range(compared to a few hundred). The older Scott M95 uses a inexpensive 40mm screw in filter(a standard) that are available. Might be the time to invest.

Please explain what you meant about the wish list - I know they exist, and I know that smart people open their wish list to people who might want to thank or reward them tangibly. However, I'm wondering if you mean an individual might put something on their wish list, such as very warm winter socks, for example, and Amazon later permits said individual to purchase said article for a lower price?

Here's an opportunity for operators to have a laugh with me, and I don't mind. Nobody is more neophyte at HAM matters than I.

When I ordered the Baofengs, I'd learned a little about the antenna that comes with, the tiny short thing, and that a longer or taller one is better, so I ordered a "whip" antenna attaching to the top of the handheld.

Silly me was thinking this is the type of antenna under discussion, as I do not yet relate to roof-top type antennas.

My own personal observation from SW Michigan is that corn is far under expected planting levels. If I could put pictures up they would show fields that are nearly ankle deep, not nearly the knee deep by july 4 that is looked for.

The antenna that you have is better than the one that you don't have. If you aren't active then you might want to disconnect it to prevent any EMP feeding into it. I don't want to discourage everyday activity but if EMP is part of your readiness threat level then you'll want to stash something without an an antenna in your readiness supplies. As long as you minimize the effect on a piece of equipment, the better it is to preserve it's function.

Unfortunately, so many people are failing to take seriously the critical problems we will soon find in grocery and feed stores, the gas pump, and other places as well.

This will be a form of "sticker shock" to so many, despite this thread and several other threads which have announced to people the amount of crop deficits, what people in the business are predicting, what the facts are.

If y'all are not fully stocked with all the meats, grains, livestock feeds, cereals, flours, everything which will be affected, I'd sure be getting after it in a hurry! I still have more to do as my preps all were either used or did not stand the test of time, so I'm waaay behind the power curve and trying to catch up, on a budget. More tomorrow, for sure.

Cyberpunk, you see for yourself, whereas many of us have to depend on videos and reports, just how bad it is, and that it is about to become even worse.

Many, many farmers have quit. They just cannot keep going, and the damages this year have totally ruined any hope of recovery. Of course, farm land for sale is doing a brisk business! To other countries! China, for one, is a big investor. Just consider - really think about this - China is using a great deal of land in Russia because they do not have enough land to feed their own people. Now they are going to use our resources to feed them!

It's a huge headache if one even starts to think of the current problems and the tremendous ramifications in the future of all of it - flood to famine to farmlands gone forever, dedicated to other countries.

If y'all don't have anything planted yet for yourselves, whether in ground, in buckets, on rooftops, balconies, decks, anywhere and anyhow - just holler and we can talk you through getting some cool weather crops planted that you will be able to harvest in fall and early winter. There are even some ways to keep things growing through winter! Imagine fresh broccoli on your table! Fresh greens! At Christmas!

Just ask - we have your six.

By the way, when you see the first frost going happen, pick all your green tomatoes and store on a tray of some kind, blossom side down, not touching. Place in a cool darkish setting, then when you want a tomato, go get the ripest one. I've eaten fresh home-grown tomatoes at Christmas this way!
Believe me, those green tomatoes you are looking at, thinking they will just be black tomorrow and wasted - not if you take them in and do as advised!

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
Under the heading of "home defense" I just found this on another site:

Caltrops. The caltrop is an ancient defensive weapon originally developed to ward off cavalry charges. It is a four-pointed star configured in such a way that, no matter how it falls, one of the points is always facing up. If a horse should step on the point, it will cripple him. They work just as well against people, especially when scattered in your yard under your windows. Anyone who wants to break in through the window will likely step on one, hurting themselves severely.

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
I recommend this video on GP. It's a matter of survival in our population, not having to do with war, famine, EMP, and all the other possibilities we face.

This covers matters we are living with on a daily basis which is worse for us than skipping meals!

Please watch - it's long but not a bit boring, right to the end.

Nobody is going to protect us but ourselves. In fact, government is pushing all this on us. Agenda 30 adjuncts?
