Glad you were successful! I'm not up to shopping for a bit so won't know if we have shortages here for a while.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery, sounds like you've been through a lot lately! May God grant you a full healing or a recourse from it's effects! As is His will.

On another site there are many reports of food shortages in Walmarts -

I did notice this yesterday while in my local Walmart. The shortages were canned green beans, and instant potatoes. My husband asked An employee there that he knows what the deal was regarding that and this person stated they had no idea but would ask around and then let him know.

Thank you very much, my friend! I'll be headed back to the hospital tonight and likely admitted - turns out I am allergic to at least one of the antibiotic prescriptions I was given there last week - am all ablaze with firey red itchy ash and had to stop the medications. Leg is getting worse again as a result, so back I go, timing to match what the hospitalist said to do with her schedule.

Y'all keep a candle in the window and the thread moving on during my absence, please.

Sea Island Cotton, it seems to be over most of the country right now.

The only reason I know of for the instant mashed potatoes being gone is preppers -I know it is one of my staples for SHTF - they are delicious, only require hot water, very filling, and go with anything or nothing.

Thank you for alerting us. The more information, the better.

Ran across this video today and wanted to pass it along:

Heating Water Outdoors:
"The following video, shows how easy it is to construct a solar heating element for water. This method can also be used during times of drought in order to cut back on water usage."

Dang it! I don't have a stock trailer.

I have a plan to build a big cage on my flat bed trailer that I can put on and off with my tractor, but there are a lot of other priority tasks to do first.

More free goats and chickens in Houston:

[link to houston.craigslist.org (secure)]

I check the Free and the Farm & Garden categories daily and put the filter on for "posted today" to get the hot deals.

In my experience, when you see such a deal you only have an hour or two to hop on it and go get the free livestock.

15 goats! We would be eating cabrito for a long time. To take full advantage of such bargains as well as store extra garden produce, you need a big chest freezer.

When I have room on the porch, I will get such a freezer.

BTW, goat meat is just like venison since they eat the same stuff. Very lean, free range. I can skin and gut a deer in about 20 minutes. However, I need 2-3 hours for each to bone it out and make burger out of the tough portions. The backstrap and loin make great small steaks.

Of course, if you have a dehydrator, you can make jerky out of most of it and don't need the big freezer so much.

Don't forget to use the liver and tongue. Cut the gall bladder out carefully and cube the liver. Fry in bacon grease with garlic and onions. Fabulous. Baked tongue is excellent as well.

Bones for soup stock. I use everything except the BAAHH.

In my experience, such free range meat tends to be tough. Be sure to cut off all tendons, ligaments, and membranes when butchering. Marinating in the fridge with vinegar, beer, spices, Worchestershire, etc. for a couple of days makes tender, tasty steaks.

If you are new to slaughtering and preparing game or livestock, you can practice on small critters such as rabbits. I butchered a steer in my residential neighborhood once.

I lured him over the tarp under the block-and-tackle to haul him up and shot him in the head with a .22

He seemed confused and walked away. I guess it takes a lot more than a well placed .22 to down a big steer.

I caught up with him and gave him a few more rounds which dropped him.

The only guy who had it worse was my trash collector who discovered 150 pounds of steer guts in the cans the next morning. Hey, I at least bagged them up for him.

Ref the food shortages, I finally decided that GMO is so bad that I will purchase some non-GMO organic stuff.

I am putting in an order to Azure Farms for flour, corn meal, and a few staples.

One of the things that convinced me is that every day I throw "hen scratch" out for my chickens and other poultry.

It is a mix of millet, cracked corn, etc.

I noticed that, even when hungry, they will not eat the corn and leave it on the ground.

What can I learn from a chicken? Maybe they sense something that I cannot?

BTW, millet is pretty cheap. It won't make bread that rises because it lacks gluten, but you can use in for a lot of other baking. I may buy 50 lbs. and grind it for flour.

Ref my experience with slaughtering goats, I found out that a .22 short in the center of the skull is NOT enough. Traumatic experience for both me and the goat.

I got a 12 gauge break barrel shotgun. Turkish. Surprising quality for $130 from our local big box sporting goods store. Bought a 9 MM sub-caliber device that fits into the shotgun bore. Now, a 9 MM round sounds about as loud as a firecracker. Not enough to alarm the neighbors.

9MM is plenty of medicine for the goat. It can punch through the thick skull.

Most people cut their throats, but I find it easier to shoot them in the head. Instant trip to goat heaven for them. I don't eat the brains any way.

BTW, the company that sells the subcaliber devices also sells one that makes your 12 gauge into a muzzle loading shotgun. That could come in handy if you had to rely on homemade black powder if SHTF.

I have seen no food shortages at Walmart. yesterday I picked up 18 extra large eggs for 63 cents. I have no clue how they can sell them at that price. It could be all the competition we have in the area. Now that I'm back into weight lifting I'm going heavy on the eggs.

The shortages are going nation-wide now. If you are not stocked, you are behind. Waaay behind. Get busy, please.

Thank you, KTee!

No, I don't think we have enough if we have seven years' worth. Of everything!

I think we will always feel behind the power curve on this. However, the people who genuinely worry me are those who still function under "normalcy bias" and have nothing. After all, food has always been readily available at decent prices. Therefore, food will always be readily available at decent prices. Yet where will they come when they realize the tragic mistakes they have made? Uhuh. That's right. And most of us will not have enough to share.

Did you notice the two permapinned threads today are both about food shortages? That's something, at least. May wake a few more people.

I'm glad the super pins are up and hope they stay there for awhile. The general consensus is total deniability that something like that can happen to us.
The normalcy will soon be lost and only we can hope they wake up.

We also see the explosions, transformer issues, gas explosions, so many things interfring with heat, lighting and air conditioning, and nobody seems to notice a pattern. What do you suppose is the meaning? Let's talk about this, as it will come to affect us all at some point.

Construction too is a factor. Roads and other systems being taken offline for improvements. Not a bad thing but still adds to the overall effect.

I was able to order several things there, from Augason, just in time as the sale ends tomorrow. A friend who has been prepping since he was nine years old vouched for them as having probably the best, so I am happy.

Thanks for the post! Checking out ProvidentLiving now.

I don't know if anyone has been following the Alone tv series, but they are way in the north in sometimes bitter cold, yet they are doing great fishing, trapping, and one guy even beat the odds and took a moose. He has so much meat, he probably will win as long as he doesn't get injured.

You have to have many practical ancestral skills. Don't just buy gear and supplies. Learn how to gather wild edibles. Mostly this is meat and fish so practice. I don't know what you vegans are going to do.
