Hey Pooka and everyone, if you were traveling in the car long distance, what foods and meals would you take and try to make on the road and maybe some type of items you may need? Taking all ideas. hf

Peanut butter always, of course. No chips or sodas- bad for you and will upset your physicality during the drive.

Something to warm foods with - there are plug-in food heaters for vehicles, as well as plug-in coolers.

Canned foods that are meals you would normally eat. Coffee of course, in whatever form you prefer. I have one of those little curled metal things that plug in to the cigaret lighter and you place in water to heat it. Instant coffee or tea bags or hot chocolate envelopes would work perfectly, as would dried soups.

Try to eat as normally as possible. Buy fruit as you go and munch on that. Occasionally on the trip purchase a loaf of good whole-grain bread, some lunchmeat of your choosing, or ham, my choosing, a package of cheese slices, a tomato to slice on it (of course you have a couple packages of zip lock bags in the vehicle for whatever) and have a few meals of that. Either finish the meat or toss it before it goes south.

Basically, find ways to eat as closely as possible to your normal diet.

For my last road trip, I made trail mix with nuts and dried fruit. I chopped carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, and bell peppers and packed them in ziplock baggies in a cooler. I also had various types of cheese in the cooler.

Also remember to keep a big ziplock baggie for the trash so it doesn't stink up the car between stops. Write TRASH on it and keep it in the cooler.

I order large quantities of nuts and dried fruit from:

Cheapest and you can design your own, healthy trail mix.
