I went off to an off grid cabin across from these rapids... [ link to sunshinecoastcanada.com (secure)] The woman (one of 2 who got away) decided it was a perfect time to take me and my friend home. The wall of water from the hightide coming at us was about 7-8' but it its a good boat. We caught full on air...scary as all get go and kind of dumb. But we made it...so I met all the neighbours and stuff and it was a delight. They all get their water (via pipes) from a spring up mountain, they all have solar systems and back up gennies, and they all use propane appliances. We designed a greenhouse for her SW facing deck and am going back to build it. She didn't know that hot peppers are perennials (7-8 years some of them) nor that vining tomatoes were. She is going to have a rather neat greenhouse when I'm done with it. I'm going to stay there for a bit I think this winter (2-3 weeks) because we are old friends who can be near each other without having to talk. So I'm going to go around to all of her neighbours and look at what they have set up and I'll keep ya'll posted when I do. I was quite impressed...everywhere I looked I saw food. Swimming food, stuck on a rock by the shore food, buried in sand food, flying food and deer a plenty. Neat spot. Sounds a fascinating place, with few interrupting visitors, if the Narrows is the only way in! The materials for building the greenhouse will go by boat as you did? Do these people own the land, or are able to simply live there by virtue of the difficulty of getting rid of them? Lance, you sound like you would prefer there to where you just moved to! Is that the case? Sounds a safer place when SHTF than almost anywhere else. What did you mean a woman got away? That was a very odd statement and no explanation. Creepy, even! LOL HOw do they bring in propane, appliances, all the large and/or heavy items you said they are living with. Very, very interesting. Tell us more! And do remember your thread, Thread: Dandelions and Civilization (short vid)UPDATED pg 11 Dandelion and Spike Proteins (Page 10) which I am still trying to keep alive~! It's important, but needs your input too! It all gets brought in by boat...all the supplies. It's 35 minutes (with her boat) from here... [ link to www.sechelt.ca (secure)] which is a 'fullish' town of sorts (for all your mod cons) or 8 minute through the chuck to here which is an odd place (ie I don't really like it...it is too dark 7 months of the year). [ link to www.travel-british-columbia.com (secure)] Most of the people own the land (there is a few leased lots) and their property taxes are under $200 a year...not bad. And 'she got away' because when you have romantic inclinations about someone and then you have to save their life...the energy shifts. And I did save her life so we are fast friends rather then married. Nothing creepy about it, well aside from the near death bit.
