I have about four ounces of hemp flower, mostly CBD strains but one 20% CBG strain.

I make my own oil with it, but also use it in my cooking like an herb or spice.

Posted this in another thread, went and grabbed it for sharing here...

Don't panic. That's rule #1.

You CAN survive this. Hell, the ONLY reason you're even HERE is because somewhere back in YOUR family tree, your ANCESTORS survived a myriad of plagues and pestilences...

If you have NOT prepped before, ever in your life, and you want to start...

Walmart sells 20 lb bags of white rice. That bag will make 200 servings. It's less than $9.

Walmart sells 20 lb bags of dried pinto beans. That bag will make 250 servings. It's less than $15.

Walmart sells their equate brand 'complete multivitamin,' 500 count bottle, for less than $18.

For less than $50, you can lay in sufficient food for your belly AND a supplement so that you can lock the door and SURVIVE for two solid months.

If you have more people in your home, then use the above as a guide and figure out how much of each you'll need to lay in.

Once you've got the basic food requirement laid in, start with everything else.

When your feet hit the floor in the morning, what THINGS do you use? WRITE IT DOWN. Do this for the whole day. Write down every non food item that you use. Best if you do this for a few days. That forms the basis for your list of items you will need to lay in. Go through the list and check to see how much of the various essentials you have on hand - if you do not have enough to last for an anticipated quarantine period, then buy more.

Next comes essentials for use in case you get sick during the quarantine time and have to self treat at home. Everyone is different in terms of the kinds of stuff they use for illnesses. Take an inventory of what you have on hand and think about what you MIGHT need. Make sure you have stuff on hand to self treat things like digestive upsets (you're going to be eating a LOT of beans - plan accordingly!), colds, allergies, toothaches, cuts/scrapes/burns.

Once you are comfortable that you have sufficient food, non food essentials, and medications you may need...THEN add in additional things (including more foods so that you're NOT stuck eating ONLY rice and beans for two solid months!).

Adding....

Look up ORS (oral rehydration solution) and make sure you have the stuff you'd need to mix some of that up if you were to need it. (It's certain proportions of sugar, salt, baking soda, and light salt - not exotic ingredients.)

I have been picking up stacks of those free papers as I leave the grocery store. Have a metal trash can full of old catalogs that I got in the mail out in the barn.

Major prepping project: As soon as we realized what was going down, The Queen said, "I want a deep freeze and a milk cow".

Freezer was easy to come by. Searched for milk cows. Bought one and discovered she was sick as soon as I got her home. She died yesterday. Buried her in this year's garden area to make fertilizer.

Bought second cow who came with 5 scrawny calves. Cow is healthy but continually bellowing for food. I will need extra feed for her since I only have about 3 acres of pasture available and a horse to feed as well. She has four calves suckling her.

Already slaughtered one calf yesterday. Maybe 2 more tomorrow. Less to feed and more milk for us. Will let the other calves grow a bit. Freezer is filling up nicely. After the calves, I will slaughter excess ducks and the gander. Don't need him if the geese are impregnated.

I have been run ragged building more fences, taking care of livestock, improving physical defenses, buying last minute items. Spent a lot of my savings which was not spectacular.

We are already adjusting to self-quarantine. Not going out, cooking up oldest canned goods and stock, baking bread, and cooking beans.

I have a lot more to do. I send emails with excerpts from the news about NCov to family and friends as well as the local honchos in my small town. Hope they heed.

I am thinking that society will change to one of isolation and local production.

Right now, just focused on survival.

Thought I would add:

I know this is a prepper thread for people who are poor.

15 years ago, at age 55, I went BK because I got scammed while buying a company. Wife at the time divorced me. I was broke and had zero income, no job.

I was one step away from being homeless.

I worked my way out of that hole by following the same plan I expound on now. Ate beans, rice, and oatmeal as a primary diet for years. Bought another failing company for ZERO because they were in such dire straits.

Worked 14 hours per day, 7 days a week for the next 13 years. Never borrowed money! No movies, bars, restaurants or vacations except for some local deer hunting.

Six years ago I met an incredible woman, The Queen, and got married again. Best six years of my life! She is more of a hard core prepper than I am having endured extreme poverty and war in her original country.

Because of my extreme thrift I was able to purchase a house and five acres for my new bride using savings. First time I ever paid cash for a house.

Now, I live on my Social Security check and a couple of small retirement checks.

I let my kids keep most of the profits from my company.

Take heed, young people!

Almost anyone can bounce back from poverty with the right attitudes and actions.

Best 'prep' anyone can do is to conduct the necessary inner-work to make peace with one's inevitable physical death (regardless of how it comes, since it's coming)...

I agree. I think prepping is good because who knows what disaster awaits us - long or short term. But, the bottom line is that each of us will eventually pass, so accepting that fact, will make the life you live more of a gift to treasure and hopefully prompt people to get right with God. Accept Christ's salvation.

Our personal relationship with God is the most important factor in our lives. Having one guarantees our destination when we leave here, as does not having such a relationship.

Meanwhile that personal relationship makes living on earth so much easier for most of us, and give us immediate direction.

Preparedness is for everyone - one never knows what may befall one's life - injury, illness, job loss, economic downturn - could be anything.

Just now, we have the deadly virus, economic collapse, Ice Age, lack of crops, food shortages, potential famine - we are in deep doodoo and those who are well-prepped will have the easiest time.

Great advice, except that LifeStraws are really quite poor. Use Sawyer Minis, always. Similar price, for twice as much water and better done. Read the reviews. :)

Stock up on lighters every time you go to the store. Grab one or three, each time, and toss them in a bucket. They are guaranteed not to go to waste, and eventually when bartering seems safe - that will be a long time - they will be an ideal barter item for almost anything you need/want.

Thanks for the good advice for all of us!

Absolutely critical! They are totally dependent upon us, and we are totally responsible for them.

Don't even think about leaving them behind - that is condemning them to a life of fear, torture, starvation, and cruelty.

Did you know dogs are the only creatures that love us more than they love themselves? How could you think about not having plenty of food for them, and love, and keeping them with you? They would die for you - don't you be the cause of it!!!!

I have wondered about growing hemp in a bucket, and what I would do with it. Perhaps use it medically? That is, as long as it does not contain THC, which I do not want, for my own reasons.

Thank you again, TXGLP2!!! Love it!

Learn some useful skills on weaving, too. Here is a simple tool you can make
to weave "cloth" in strips that can be attached into larger pieces.

[link to www.youtube.com (secure)]

There are other videos out there that, after watching, you should be able to remember how to do it if the need arises. Various plant fibers can be made into threads to weave, as well. One that may be easy to find in North America is good old hemp. Also, you can buy seeds to grow your own useful fibers such as flax.

The following you really should learn to do.
It will be a valuable skill in any SHTF scenario.
