Beware if you’re a small business owner.

When you refuse to advertise with Yelp they will remove your positive reviews and leave only negative reviews. They did this to me. I literally had many five star reviews that were removed and I had one negative review that was bogus and that’s the only review they left for my business. This was done after I refused to pay for advertising on their site. They also flagged this one star review as the first review I received for my business which was an out right lie.

They currently have a ton of lawsuits against them and many complaints by businesses who have had this issue with them. You can check out YouTube videos with people having this issue and you can also research it on the Internet. I plan to file a complaint with the federal trade commission once the government opens back up, but I don’t expect any results as many people have brought lawsuits to know avail.

I would like to let consumers know that you cannot rely on Yelp reviews. They lie. They allow good reviews if they are getting paid by that business. If you want fair reviews pay attention to Google.

Spread the word so we can let the public know, Yelp uses extortion to force businesses to advertise with them. If you have their app one star it and tell them why. It’s a big businesses like this that hurt small business owners and they don’t care.

This is 100% true. I have 40+ 5 star reviews hidden in Unrecommended while a restaurant that advertises with them have their one stars hidden in unrecomended with all 5’s recommended.

And they have called up to 4 times a day every day on a takeout line.

Re: YELP is a SCAM
Just got sent this one about FB:

"#Facebook has been lying to the public about the scale of its problem with #fake accounts, which likely exceed 50% of its network.

In a report published Thursday by #PlainSite, an independent research shop led by #AaronGreenspan, analysts calculated that Facebook CEO Mark #Zuckerberg has been regularly lying to investors and the public about the company's user metrics, and that the company could be overestimating the number of users by as much as 50%.

Facebook's fraudulent numbers hurt its customers (advertisers) by overstating the effectiveness of Facebook's product, the company said.
Fake accounts affect Facebook at its core in numerous ways:
Its customers purchase advertising on Facebook based on the fact that it can supposedly target advertisements at more than 2 billion real human beings. To the extent that users aren’t real, companies are throwing their money down the drain.
Fake accounts click on advertising at random, or “like” pages, to throw off antifraud algorithms. Fake accounts look real if they do not follow a clear pattern. This kind of activity defrauds advertisers, but rewards Facebook with revenue.
Fake accounts often defraud other users on Facebook, through scams, fake news, extortion, and other forms of deception. Often, they can involve governments"
It's life as we know it, but only just.

This should spread around. Does Yelp have any competitors? This is basically organized crime. Pay for our protection or we'll burn your restaurant down.

Re: YELP is a SCAM
I have over 30 all positive reviews, and only few showing. The weird thing is, when I got few good reviews in the past, Yelp would call me and pester me about signing up for paid advertisement with them.
I refused or just ignored their calls.
Now, every time I get a positive review, next day it gets hidden. I don't get calls from Yelp anymore. The only reviews they stay are from people who are active on Yelp.

If a person who leaves you a review is not active on Yelp (maybe only has a couple of reviews and no 'yelp friends'), those reviews will be hidden.

Apparently, their 'algorithm' chooses which review is relevant and which is not. Or whether it's fake or not (if it is overly positive, it may be fake'...

It feels like pouring water in a bucket with holes, the reviews never seem to stay. I guess if you get hundreds of reviews it may start making a difference.

Funny, cause my only negative review was done in 2016 by a lady who had only posted mine and one other and no activity since. Many of my positive reviewers are very active on Yelp. So this algorithm they talk about is bullshit.

Then the icing on the cake was they put a STAR by her name and labeled her as my first review, when in fact, I had reviews BEFORE her a whole year earlier. So that’s an outright damned lie by Yelp.

I have a small business with good reviews that are spread over a lot of websites (Google, Facebook, yelp, instagram). Yelp has been calling me non stop to try to get me to advertise. I have been putting them off for a while. Back when I was in the radio broadcasting industry we would often get contacted by minority publications (pre internet) to pay for ads targeting minorities. Management would always roll over and advertise because they were afraid of EOE lawsuits.
