Bottom line --
Flying seriously sucks any more, even when you are in first class.
I can remember back in the late 90s when I could get very comfy in a coach seat. Now, even a my size, I feel squished in a coach seat. Mr. LJS can barely move, and he is 6Ft, 170 lbs -- so not exactly an enormous guy.

I have a friend that's very large, when he flies he does purchase two seats to make sure he's comfortable. Thankfully, we often get upgraded to first class. If we are crossing an ocean, we go ahead and get first class tickets.
