No way I'm turning the heat down. Lots of hype about this being the coldest weather in a generation and that's bullshit. It's been below zero here MANY times. In his poem Human Pride, Marx admits that his aim is not to improve the world, reform or revolutionize it, but simply to ruin it and enjoy it being ruined: With disdain I will throw my gauntlet full in the face of the world, And see the collapse of this pygmy giant whose fall will not stifle my ardor. Then will I wander godlike and victorious through the ruins of the world And, giving my words an active force, I will feel equal to the Creator. “Looking for consciousness in the brain is like looking in the radio for the announcer.” – Nasseim Haramein, Director of Research for the Resonance Project |

No way I'm turning the heat down. Quoting: thinking... Lots of hype about this being the coldest weather in a generation and that's bullshit. It's been below zero here MANY times. The distribution system can only move so much gas. Yes, its been below zero before but when you combine the wind chill and get these devastatingly cold temperatures, you are faced with a situation where you're sheading heat from the exterior walls of your home so fast your furnace cannot replace it fast enough. Now, you have EVERY furnace on the network running 24x7. If people collectively draw more than the system can provide, you know, because of physics, then pressures fall to levels which cannot support safe appliance operation. If people back off their consumption and reduce the delta between inside and outside temperature, by lowering their thermostat to 60F, your furnace may be able to maintain that temp and cycle off occasionally. If everyone does this, the average consumption is lower, and hopefully within the capacity of the network delivering it. Believe me, they'd LOVE to sell you more gas. If demand exceeds supply, they may end up with explosions in peoples homes, fail to fires, all kinds of shit... bottom line.. if pressure falls below useful levels, no one gets gas. |

TinfoilHatMan User ID: 77332386 United States 01/31/2019 01:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have two 500 gallon propane tanks. I keep my house at 72-74 degrees. I also have a wood stove and generators. Quoting: Copperhead I laugh at the cold. I wouldnt laugh too hard. LP boils at -44f but as you approach that temp, it gets substantially harder for the surface area of the tank to attract enough ambient heat to keep the LP above -44f and CONTINUE to boil. You could literally end up in a situation where the liquid propane will not convert to a gas and just sit in the tank. That's when it's not funny anymore. |
