Maybe I'm naive but it seems a return to a gold standard would solve the entire problem of fiat money and cryptocurrency.

If you don't 'hold it', you don't 'own it'.

Pretty damn simple.

it's not so easy to transfer gold around. Yet i can transfer 100s of millions of dollars within a minute for a fee of 42 cents using Litecoin anywhere in the world directly to anyone without having to rely on a 3rd party to do it. Think what that would do for business to business transactions.

GET YOUR FUCKIN COINS OFF THE EXCHANGES OR YOU DON'T OWN THEM.

That's what the Proof Of Keys day was all about on January 3rd.

FFS, if you let an exchange hold your cryptos other than a small trading stack, then you get what you deserve.

Honestly, both comments were dumb.

The gold standard is antiquated and unfeasible for the modern world, but if it were, there's PLENTY of gold to "back" all currencies on earth.. it's just a matter of price.

it's all imaginary currency.

the test is:

can you trade it for some other common identifier (dollars maybe):
and end of with wine and bread and steak on your dinner plate.

the answer is yes.

so it is about as real as it gets in this World, anyway.

It already happens daily with existing technology like Paypal, EFT, credit cards, etc.

We're not going back to using gold and silver as currency because it would be fucking retarded. Using gold as a separate store of value, yes. Any paper or digital currency works perfectly well as medium of exchange, we just need a way to preserve purchasing power (gold).

The problem is when we try to make the currency do what it never can do, due to Triffin's Dilemma. Time to separate the medium of exchange (currency - digital, paper) from the store of value (gold).

Crypto is a terrible store of value as everyone has learned over the last 10 years.. a store of value doesn't moon to 20k and then drop to 4k in a year. But it's a decent (potentially) medium of exchange.

Money is nothing but numbers on a piece of damn paper.

Isn't life more important that numbers on a piece of paper or how much money you have in your damn bank account?

In the end, we all go in the ground and once size fits all for your grave 6 feet under the ground.

You can't take your precious money and assets that you have worked for all your life to the grave with you.

In theory, it should add 190 million in total value to the rest of the market cap. In theory anyways.

I had 2k CDN on Quadriga while waiting for a bigger dip to eventually rebuy (IOTA). The funny part is that I thought it was safer keeping it there instead of Bitfinex or Binance, since it was based in Canada.

Dumb fucking move..

That's why you get a hardware wallet. Only keep your trading coins on the exchange if you need to take advantage of a short term trades. Usually this is crap coins.

it does not happen with paypal, EFT and credit cards. You just named all 3rd party centralized organizations that control your transaction and can charge any fee they want or reject the transfer outright.

With crypto its peer to peer. Meaning no middle man.
