Jesus that’s terrible! Is he is prison?
 Quoting: Miss Bunny Swan

Yes, he is. Unfortunately, he is still rambling incoherently and not making any sense as of today and can't even be interviewed about the incident. He's been charged with attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated assault and battery with intent to cause grave bodily harm, criminal threat, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Apparently he was using heroin and no one even knew about it.
 Quoting: TrustNoOneKS

My family experienced same, only both young people died (murder-suicide) :(

PTSD + military overprescription is real.

Most of my fellow vets are on 6+ prescription meds, meds with a KNOWN history of causality vis-a-vis violent outbursts.

Pharma won't let anyone bring this (successfully) to court.

I am so, so sorry for what happened to your family, and amazed that she survived. I feel terrible for both of them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77067311

I was thinking about the murder suicides that happened when an Army Unit came back years ago, I think 3 events in one returned Unit. - It was such a big deal they were trying to do education about the issues. I think they thought there was a tie in with anti malaria drugs -

I hate to say this as a Combat Veteran myself (OIF) but there are a lot of problems still rising to the surface - a lot of us came home a lot more damaged then it appears at first glance.

I think the meds, the vaccines and what ever other exposures - for example my unit worked with DU. So many I deployed with are suffering now from Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, Sjogrens, etc. - autoimmune diseases that can alter a person with lesions in the brain.

Yes there may have been street drugs involved - but there could be something much bigger going on.

Its a miracle your daughter survived it really is.

Sounds like a severe brain injury triggered by drug use. Meaning he probably has a brain injury from time in service? Was he blown up or did he lose consciousness while serving? Do you know?

Some of the malarial drugs made soldiers lose their minds in fits of violence.
There is not excuse for what he did - but there might be an explanation.
Was he mixing psych drugs with street drugs?

What an awful mess.
Your daughter I really feel for her.
Are you close, are you able to offer her emotional support?

I have to think if you could contact the right service organization - its possible they might help your daughter as a victim of a severely mentally injured Veteran of recent conflict. I wish I knew ~ I'll google around and see if I can find something.
These organizations that help Veterans - I would think one of them would also step up to help your daughter its just finding the right agency . . .
 Quoting: Starbird

I know that he received disability from the military for his PTSD but am not aware of his suffering any injuries. I know that he had killed while there and that it had weighed heavily on him. Recently he had begun to hallucinate seeing the dead and saying they were talking to him, but my daughter did not feel threatened by it or him. I only found out about the hallucinations after the fact when she was speaking with the detectives. He was not on meds and to the best of our knowledge he was not prescribed them, but who really knows if he was and just threw the script away.
 Quoting: TrustNoOneKS

Do you know if the disability was from his branch of service or from the Department of Veterans affairs? What branch of service was he in?
Did he keep in contact with anyone?

Because of the nature of service in these recent conflicts - many Veterans are suffering in addition to PTSD - brain injuries. In all honesty if he is still babbling in jail I hope they consider medical possibilities and look at his brain.

I would think it might help your daughter in her healing if she knew if something like this was in play. Is she in shock?

Its important she get support right away. She is going to need a lot of emotional support.
 Quoting: Starbird

I'm not sure where the disability came from, but I know he followed up with the VA, so maybe from them. He was infantry in the Army. I'm not sure about whether he kept contact with anyone or not. I personally know so little about his time in Afghanistan because I didn't want to press him. I do know that fireworks really triggered his PTSD badly.

She's not in shock, but she is in so much pain that she doesn't want to address the psychological aspect as yet because she doesn't think she can handle the physical pain that would be caused by becoming emotional and crying. Someone is with her at all times, whether it is me or her father. She knows that she needs to get therapy eventually to deal with this. The whole extended family is just trying to do our best to be there and support her.

YES, you nailed it with the ref also to autoimmune diseases.

The murder-suicide in our family was absolutely 100% unbelievable. We are talking the sweetest, most decent midwestern boy; adored his (absolutely gorgeous) new wife, was in the process of adopting her little boy, whom he loved dearly.

He was SO pumped on life, literally. Loved serving (his wife was also military), loved life, loved his parents and little cousins, loved his brother, loved working out with his military buddies, loved everything.

When you see someone like that do this, you know something is up.

My family can't handle talking about it, but I know this is BS. This is not just "an incident." This relates to whatever is going on in our military today with the meds, the vaccinations, hell--probably the Manchurian candidate BS, and more.

Form a plan, op.
He needs to be isolated and helped; /meds, counseling, etc.
This does not exclude any course of action from law enforcement.
Your daughter needs the love and support of her family and may want to join an abuse survivors group for women in similar circumstance. They will have better ideas based on mutual experience.

She might want to move.
Any contact should be only allowed in a controlled environment, like in the presence of law enforcement.

Get with a women's survivor group first. They will have the knowledge and experience to give you the best advice.

I had read when someone experiences things so horrible and they don’t talk about it like her husband that it keeps the ptsd alive. He kept it all inside and then it welled up when the right drugs were taken or situation arrived. Talk therapy is so necessary. I can understand about your daughter wanting to stay calm so she can heal but she will have to talk about it eventually so she doesn’t get ptsd. Even though it is painful it is so necessary. So glad she has so many rallying around her. You and your husband will have to do some healing as well. Talking about your emotions is so vital so you can keep going for her.

first of all, PTSD can never be accepted as an excuse
for stabbing or killing someone.
the ex-soldier is the loser in that encounter. fuck him.
 Quoting: Low Earth Orbit

I am not saying it is an excuse, it is just provided as explanation for how something so awful could have come to pass. I don't know for certain it was related to the PTSD, but can only speculate. We really have no idea what went so wrong with him. When my daughter entered the apartment he was rambling incoherently and not making any sense whatsoever. She had just spoken with him a couple of hours before and he was normal. He hasn't been coherent since the incident.

Military was one of the first sources to deploy LSD in the 1950s, and the concoctions have only gotten more deadly. A sudden, catastrophic alteration of psychological state, plus violence and aphasia, could definitely track with LSD's awful modern incarnations. Something to keep an eye on.

Re: Unfortunate Incident With My Daughter - Your Help Is Appreciated
Sounds like a lot of bad decisions overall. Hate it for her. She is going to have to start making better decisions if she wants to something better than what she has out of life....

Hey GLP family, your help would be greatly appreciated with regard to an incident involving my daughter.

Below is the basic background with regard to what happened. I've set up a GoFundMe and it would be greatly appreciated if you guys could share this to get this in front of as many eyes as humanly possible!

Any financial help you can provide in whatever amount you feel you can spare is also greatly appreciated! Understandably, in these trying financial times if you can't afford to help, prayers are also greatly appreciated!

BACKGROUND

My daughter was recently attacked by her boyfriend who suffered from PTSD due to his military service in Afghanistan. She had received a phone call at work about his making some strange phone calls and had gone home to check on him. Within minutes of entering the apartment, he punched her in the back of the head and then proceeded to stab her with a butcher knife 5 times - 4 to the back and one to the upper chest/shoulder area. He also bit off her ear so severely that it was hanging on only by the lower lobe.

She spent nearly a week in the hospital due to the severe and deep stab wounds and also had to deal with nicks to her lungs, blood transfusions, a surgical procedure by a plastic surgeon to reattach the ear, and has suffered a partial loss of function to her left arm due to a nerve bundle being severed in the attack. There is nothing that can be done for the bundle other than physical therapy/occupational therapy and they are unsure at this time what percentage of loss of function will be permanent.

She will require an additional surgery by the plastic surgeon to further return the ear to a normal appearance and will require up to 6 months of physical therapy/occupational therapy. She is unable to work and we have no idea when she will be able to return to work due to her inability to use her left arm fully at this time.

She’s a single mom who now faces loss of income; has a $700+ bill with her apartments for hazmat cleanup, not to mention eviction fees that she has incurred due to no fault of her own, moving expenses and storage expenses to store her things; serious medical bills that she has already incurred; serious medical bills for her future treatment; and she will need to undergo counseling to deal with the aftermath of this tragedy.

I am so sorry you went through this experience.
My personal experience leads me to believe it was the Vaccination schedule.
I suffered an extreme reaction from my 3rd Anthrax vaccine.
How ever - after reading about the incident at the cuban embassy - with the electronic warfare that seriously injured some of the embassy workers - I have also wondered if we were exposed to things we are not even really aware of yet.

Some of the mental health issues suffered when we returned were out of context with our deployment. Many of the males I deployed with felt a lot of guilt over breaking down over time psychologically. After a while I told my former subordinates who I am still in close contact with (we are all out now) to get over that and accept that we were exposed to something that is causing both physical and psychological symptoms.

My x husband never deployed but did receive the entire Anthrax series, he now has Sjogrens Syndrome and his personality has changes.. Another man I know who also did not deploy developed MS, which is actually in the insert warning about that vaccine, his personality also radically changed.

I am sorry to go on about this, I do not mean to derail.

Its just OP - the young man is most likely psychologically and physically brain injured from exposures during service. And again I am so sorry this happened. It hits just too close to home for me. The street drugs where probably his attempt to self medicate a situation he did not know how to control.

first of all, PTSD can never be accepted as an excuse
for stabbing or killing someone.
the ex-soldier is the loser in that encounter.

Ugh, and I forgot - some they give "go pills" to . . .
"Go pills" and "Down pills" - all our pilots got them in theater.

Think she said he is in jail for attempted murder and about a half dozen other charges. I don't think she will have to worry about him for at least a decade, maybe more.

There is a fund that will help victims of violent crime pay medical bills if they qualify. I can't search from my phone but someone here probably knows about and can post.

OP this might be very important to a large amount of vets. It may be possible that he was ordered to take a anti-malarial called Larium, aka mefloquine.

The reactions and effects of this drug has been covered up. If you bring it up at the VA, they say they never heard of it.

This drug has caused brain damage in many vets. If he was ordered to take the drug and caused this horrible event to happen you may have a case against the drug maker.

Also the news of this horrific event may be able to prevent this tragic loss again.

Prayers for your daughters strength and recovery.
