The 50's and 60's had good music also. I like it up to the 80's! The 80's fucking killed it. That's when the rainbow unicorn we are the world shit came out. The 90's were crybaby woe is me grunge. No wonder Kurt killed himself!

I thought the 90s were great for music.
The 80s were full of silly hair bands and shit like Duran Duran.
The grunge sound was very refreshing.

Duran Duran, A Flock of Seagulls, Air Supply? Come on. A lot of wimpy fakery and hair spray.

Van Halen was fantastic but other than them there were hardly any quality bands.

Nirvana was great, Audio Slave, Chris Cornell, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice In Chains...a big improvement.
In my opinion.

Well duh I didn't need a study to confirm that. What person in their right mind would like most of the crap being produced today. Oh sure you will get some young people who will listen to it initially because they don't know any better but soon will discover the older and better stuff and people like Cardi B, JayZ and Lady Gaga will be dropped like a hot potato.

sometimes i wonder if blacks just don't like the white music cuz they're racist.

they're know it's awesome but they just don't like to worship white creativity

whites worship black raw power.

raw charmisma needs no talent. it commands you to worship it by brute force.

you see it all the time. cult leaders with no real particularly great philosophy are worshipped because the will commands them to.

Hell, I'll take the freakin' Bangles over anything for the last ten years. The 80s also gave us U2, REM, Guns n Roses. Even the hair bands (Whitesnake, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Poison, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, Warrant, etc) look great by comparison.

How interesting I had been wondering about that.

The music of 60s and 70s was really good, lots of creativity.

I want to go back and live during that time, there was total freedom of thought and people were nice to each other and forgiving and understanding.

Now everyone is judge jury and executioner, and group-think dominates.

Oh, I'll never tell you that. That was the music I lived with through high school and college. Good times. I love all those groups you mentioned, along with some less grungy 90s stuff, and yes, they were a big improvement over the 80s. The 80s, though, even though at the time we didn't think much of the music, were musically far superior to anything that has been made since about 2000.

In the '60s you had to have a different sound. All the bands wanted to sound unique, 'do their own thing' as they put it.
Nobody made it onto the radio unless they had something special to play. Thousands of songes, no two were the same.
By the middle of the '90s all that was gone, the musicians a bunch of hacks, technology providing the back beats, voices corrected to be on pitch, and it all fell apart.
No-talent bums that can drive their studio gear all claiming to be 'musicians'.
They all stink now and the kids know it.

basically people who have physiological or moral defects will have feelings of inferiority that conflict with their grandiose self image.

when they see someone else they feel they should be superior to, who is happier then they are they want to make them suffer. it makes them feel better. it is pecking order consciousness of the ape-mind.

"if i can make this person unhappy then i have proven i can inflict damage/pain therefore my power and social status had been demonstrated."

of course this is low level animalistic thinking. rather "demonic"level thinking.

This thread is sooooo stupid. There is so much good music being made it is unparalleled in history. Bands now have full recording studios in their computer. Go to any site the bands can post music for free...Myspace, Soundcloud, Bandcamp etc... and you will see countless band you don't even have time to listen to.

So the real problem is, what is wrong with the way people are being marketed music? If you can't be bothered to go looking for good music you don't get to complain it isn't there. If you did actually stop listening to VH-1 you would realize there is more music than ever. You might even make some yourself.

very very stupid u unintelligent people may actually "like" being humiliated and put in their place by a strong ape leader. this is a monkey instinct to establish a tribe or colony. this is basically your military worship you see now or police worship. its the idea that, well I'm being put in my place for greater good of our group. which will dominate as a group so they like it

Isn't it obvious? The younger generation of today PREFERS music from the 70, 80's, & 90's than they do the current garbage that tries to pass as music today. My theory: HUMAN BEINGS PREFER NON-EVIL, INNOCENT (IN COMPARISON) MUSIC OF YESTERYEAR THAN THE DEMONIC & NASTY, ILLUMINAZI-CONTROLLED, GARBAGE SOUNDS OF TODAY, A NEW STUDY REVEALS:

Millennials prefer music from 20th century ‘golden age’ to the pop of today, research suggests

Research has suggested that modern music really isn’t as good as the old classics. A study has found that golden oldies stick in millennials’ minds far more than the relatively bland, homogenous pop of today.

A golden age of popular music lasted from the 1960s to the 1990s, academics claimed. Songs from this era proved to be much more memorable than tunes released in the 21st century. Music from the vinyl era is still very popular among young people Scientists tested a group of millennials on their ability to recognise hit records from different decades.

The 643 participants, typically aged 18 to 25, maintained a steady memory of top tunes that came out between 1960 and 1999. In contrast, their memory of 21st-century songs from 2000 to 2015 – while higher overall – diminished rapidly over time.

Lead researcher Dr Pascal Wallisch, from New York University in the US, said: ‘The 1960s to 1990s was a special time in music, reflected by a steady recognition of pieces of that era-even by today’s millennials.’ During this period songs reaching the top of the US Billboard charts were significantly more varied than they were between 2000 to 2015, or the 1940s and 1950s, said the scientists. Even so, certain songs were far more memorable than others, the study found.

Well known examples included ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’ by Percy Sledge (1966), ‘Baby Come Back’ by Player (1977) and ‘The Tide is High’ by Blondie (1980). Others, including ‘Knock Three Times’ by Dawn (1970), ‘I’m Sorry’ by John Denver (1975) and ‘Truly’ by Lionel Richie (1982) were all but forgotten.

Songs selected for the study included those that reached number one on the Billboard Top 100 between 1940 and 1957, and the top slot on the Billboard ‘Hot 100’ from 1958 to 2015.

Agreed. I went to UB40 the other night and was surprised by how many millennials were there and how many knew all the words.

This is an older band and to be honest I was expecting the crowd to be a lot older too.

As a child of the 70's we were so lucky to be alive through that era.

It's not worse because it's new. It's worse because it's worse.

I knew, from a very young age, that my dad stopped listening to new music right about 1970. I also knew that music didn't start being bad in 1970; my dad just stopped trying. I swore that would never happen to me, but about 2000, I started noticing new music was not sounding nearly as good as it did before. I thought, "Oh, shit. It's happening to me, too. Now, I'll never like any new music because I'm old and boring," so I redoubled my efforts. I looked around on whatever we had back in the dark ages before social media and found very little worth listening to. 19 years hence, I still haven't found much worth listening to, certainly not a great new song every week or so like I did in the 90s.
