Even if you began to decouple the rail cars on eday one, you have to go one by one, first the engine, you have to decouple it, roll it forward, then tip it off the rails such that it doesn't just sit there like a sack of ten billion beans, it has to be gotten off the railway, entirely such that new steam trains can pass it. I was going to add something along the same lines to this thread.

It would be useful to stockpile books on 1880's technology along with your prepping supplies. If you have to rebuild society, steam and other technologies from that era can be more easily reproduced and rapidly aid the reconstruction.

That is very wise, also school books for children, books on medicinal herbs, DIY off grid power, ect.

Most of the comments I see here are still focused on the event and it's imeadeate after effects, I am focused on stage 3 once the dust settles 3 to 8 years after, when most of the people will be dead and marauders will have died fighting themselves, at this time I expect that there will be local warlords, but there will also be areas beyond their control, too far away from their base of operations.

This is when/where people will begin to rebuild.

A great video from Canadian Prepper discussing the pro's and con's to consider when choosing the best place to be in a SHTF scenario . I would also take Yellowstone, New Madrid and pandemics into consideration.

Hey DZ, books will be like gold for the 3rd and 4th stages of recovery. As an old Sergeant I can tell you your best survival tool is between your ears.

better stock up on beef it's price will skyrocket soon after this gets out there.

As a supplement to your diet, micro greens add vitamins and minerals, and can be grown in a small area.




Something to start considering is being responsible for your own food supply.
