Start phone in safe mode. If the problem stops it is an app that has been downloaded.
If it doesn't stop it is probably malware and you would need to backup your data and factory reset.

OP, let me ask one simple question:

Was the first application you installed on the phone a reputable paid antivirus / anti malware application?

If not, now you know why your phone is powned.

My advise: wipe it and start over, first installing what you forgot to install the first time you turned the device on.

I got it new at Verizon. how to wipe it? that's ok, i'll watch video on how to. appreciate your suggestion.

I'm almost sixty, but have 'been around the block'. To my understanding "powned" means 'owned by a hacker' usually via malware installed when visiting a website or installing some 'free app'--there is NO "free lunch" especially where phones are concerned.

As for how to wipe, if Android it would be a 'factory reset' via the 'gear' configuration menu.

If IOS (Apple) I personally hate them so I've no idea how to.

FWIW, AVG works quite well for the Louis household; it even tells us if an app contains 'Adware' and blocks its installation.

Because GLP is in distress via the removal of paid membership funding by the last provider "Stripe".

As soon as we have a new provider, myself and others will do a 'photo caption contest' for an upgraded membership to the winners to help pay GLP's operating costs.

Today 2/8/2019 at 3.45 est my landline phone rang.

It called my name. My name and telephone # appeared on the screen.

I went over and just said hello. did not know what else to do.

Then the voice I have on it said leave your name, etc...

Then terrible noises sounded--screeches.
