But how could that extra ten bucks a week, end up forcing me to cut a check to Uncle Sam for $946?? I only gained, rougly, an extra $520 a year. I’ve NEVER owned ANYTHING in my life. |

With that, less taxes were paid to the government for the year. Meaning many will have smaller refunds, (But you had more money throughout the year) or may owe (And you should have saved). The smart people set money aside, the less educated will figure it out with next years returns. I am trying to make this as easy as possible to understand, and will take your questions over the next days, but I will have to ask your state, what you made, what was withheld and your filing status if you want me to look a little more into your case. Loaning money to the government in the form of tax refunds is never a wise idea as you see ZERO interest paid to you on your loan to the government. Extra money throughout the year COULD have helped you pay down debts faster, but many only know SPEND SPEND SPEND. I due time, those with poor educations may catch on to seeing what Trump did that will be in effect even after he leaves office, even if reelected in 2020. IF you were wise enough to pay down/off say, credit card debt, you will realize even more money in YOUR pocket when you are not paying credit card interest fees. I am going to sleep now, but I already see poorly educated people complaining about this... They are used to big refunds from Democrats. In actuality, you want as small of a refund as possible without owing, UNLESS you are methodical in your record keeping and saving, then you can really work the system when you pay hardly any tax during the year, and owe a lot. The Repubs made sure the tax cuts only last for a few more years. I think they made the business tax cuts permanent but not individual tax rates. Can't remember how much longer, maybe until 2024, but unless they can get back control of House and make it permanent (probably won't happen because of Dem obstruction), that extra money in the paycheck is going to disappear in about 5 years. |

The goal should always be to estimate what you’ll owe and adjust your withholding. I never understand why people get excited over a big refund and the remainder of the year they struggle financially. Keep your money throughout the year to loosen the noose. I realize things come up that change our tax situations that are unforeseen, but you usually have a general idea. They have some basic online questions you can answer to help estimate the withholding you should set per paycheck. Anyone bitching this year; compare your gross from 2018 to 2017 and then compare your fed tax owed for the same two years. Maybe it’s better or worse. But the idea of just looking at your refund or lack thereof is not really the issue. |

This is so manufactured. First of all, everyone knew what size refund they were getting when they filed. Hell, you have to know what the refund amount is just to check the status. So, it isn’t a sudden “surprise”.. where was all the outrage when they filed? Because that’s when people knew how big of a refund they were getting or not,,,,, not the day the direct deposits go out. |

Just waiting on my 11,000 check now. I did however notice that my paychecks are smaller even though I got a raise. Better re-evaluate those withholding amounts I set YEARS ago. |

Many poorly educated Americans are having issues with their refunds. I got $900 back last year..this year only $135 (a difference of $765.) I received and extra $20 per pay period this year ($25 x 26 pay periods = $650) I did the math. $765 less of a refund. $650 more throughout the year. This "tax cut" didn't work in my favor as I wasn't able to itemize my mortgage interest and property taxes (which gave me the bulk of my previous refunds). Plus I'm single without kids and paying over $6k in school/property taxes for crumb crunchers that aren't even mine. ![]() |

I don't think the issue is with the tax code I think the issue is with you and your kind. Actually I suggest we have two tax codes. One for the Conservatives and one for the Libtards since they love taxes. That way at the end of the year conservatives can pay less taxes and receive larger refunds and shills like you can get shafted by Uncle Sam. |

Many poorly educated Americans are having issues with their refunds. Just completed taxes. Rate tax vs. Total Income went UP slightly. Very slightly. But will owe far more than expected due to the decreased withholding. I saw it when it happened and actually lowered number of deductions knowing we would not see the maximum benefit. I think the over $150K folks will find that they may not get much - if any - benefit from new law if they have state and local taxes of any amount and a decent mortgage and real-estate taxes. Main lessons learned: 1. Being 'house poor' or 'over-housed' has no tax value now. Own as small and cheap of a house as you possible can. 2. Even modest state and local income taxes now have value in the federal taxes. So move to low/no income tax states and localities. I think that the long term impact will be: a) Lower house prices b) Continuing exodus out of high tax localities. |
