Got very focused on one specific one. Ended up self-employed doing my hobby (seeing as how people were willing to pay for something I considered a past-time). Five years after that I expanded and had 20 employees. Last year got bored of it and sold the whole thing off. Now I'm looking for something new to focus on instead. |

I have observed a radical change in the mindset of employees. 80% of them have a chip on their shoulder. An 'I deserve' mentality. A guy starting out pushing a shovel, that works his ass off and is LOYAL, (see definition above), soon gets promoted to running equipment. Then promoted to management. Then, he may go on to running his own company or he can save his beans and retire early. whatever your experience is, it doesn't involve being an effective manager of people. |

As in "someone thought they could stand around for the whole shift if they just disconnect a tiny plug somewhere". This isn't even a union shop, they're just looking for an easy day. But that means 5 people not producing 400,000 products. Just last night I found an essential wire in a 15 million dollar machine, on a motor drive, loosely pushed into a terminal, and not under the screw, which WAS tight. It caused an intermittent problem for a day or two while I was off. When I showed the lead man the loose wire, he was happy, because he has to answer for production, but everyone else was bummed because they had to work now. So , yeah, I'm loyal.
