Totally agree.

Except I've worked my way up from PT dishwasher to FT head of kitchen prep, and I haven't gotten a raise since in four years.

It's still "just around the corner"

The owner is a multi-millonaire, and now I make 25 cents more than minimim wage.

So.... no, fuck that.

In some instances, fuck that.

You sir, need to move on. I suggest finding a minimum wage job and then tell your boss you need a $20 hour raise and 15k per year bonus for last 3 years or you must move on. Keep it clean and professional not emotional.

I recently got the best job I've ever had...taken me awhile to get here.

I thank the woman who hired me every so often because I still can't believe I landed the job of a lifetime.

Even ask her what I can improve on. So far she says nothing so I just have to keep up this momentum.

Don't agree at all. You get hired, you do the work, you get paid. That's the end of the story.

If some other company offers you more, you leave and work for them.

Selling your time and labor is about taking care of your family and yourself. It is never, ever about loyalty to a company.

Not only no but HELL NO! you don't owe them anything other than to do the the best you can at the task you were hired to perform for an agreed upon amount of $ and X amount of hours.

Loyalty is earned and you are blessed if you have an employer/employee that is worthy of your loyalty.

Please. I stopped working at 35. Retired as well. Got bored started doing hobbies. Got very focused on one specific one. Ended up self-employed doing my hobby (seeing as how people were willing to pay for something I considered a past-time). Five years after that I expanded and had 20 employees. Last year got bored of it and sold the whole thing off. Now I'm looking for something new to focus on instead.

Do you understand the word 'loyalty'?

You just described it as how you function in your position.

Show up on time. Work diligently. Do the job right. Don't be a slacker. Treat your boss with due respect as your boss.

As far as quitting for a higher paid job, the LOYAL employee has the balls to go to his boss and tell him he needs more money or he will have to move on BEFORE he quits.

and,

If the employee is as diligent as you are describing, he will likely raise your pay if the position commands that amount.

but, yah, you could just be an asshat and bolt out to the next position without giving notice.

The employees dont need the employer .... the employer needs the employees. Without a happy work environment, happy employee morale, your company turns to shit real fast. Companies with poor leadership who abuse and take advantage of employees learn real fast that the employees are the ones who are the driving force and stability of company.

I've been self employed for over 40 years.

I have observed a radical change in the mindset of employees. 80% of them have a chip on their shoulder. An 'I deserve' mentality.

Anyone that gets ahead in this life knows that you if you can't follow, you can't lead. A guy starting out pushing a shovel, that works his ass off and is LOYAL, (see definition above), soon gets promoted to running equipment. Then promoted to management. Then, he may go on to running his own company or he can save his beans and retire early.

whatever your experience is, it doesn't involve being an effective manager of people.

This is why I hate unions. A union works to sabotage their employer.
 Quoting: BRIEF

I regularly find things in my job that do not appear to be naturally occurring.
As in "someone thought they could stand around for the whole shift if they just disconnect a tiny plug somewhere".

This isn't even a union shop, they're just looking for an easy day. But that means 5 people not producing 400,000 products.

Just last night I found an essential wire in a 15 million dollar machine, on a motor drive, loosely pushed into a terminal, and not under the screw, which WAS tight.
It caused an intermittent problem for a day or two while I was off.

When I showed the lead man the loose wire, he was happy, because he has to answer for production, but everyone else was bummed because they had to work now.

So , yeah, I'm loyal.
