Totally agree.

Except I've worked my way up from PT dishwasher to FT head of kitchen prep, and I haven't gotten a raise since in four years.

It's still "just around the corner"

The owner is a multi-millonaire, and now I make 25 cents more than minimim wage.

So.... no, fuck that.

In some instances, fuck that.

this is why the corporate raiders got so many tricks up their sleeves, how to finagle control of the corporation, and once they get to decide what do with all the money, the heist of the corporation is complete, they can now legally steal EVERYTHING and DO steal everything.

they will move the company to mexico just to pump and dump the stock, they are absolute nihilists, they do not create wealth they DESTROY it, they destroy and steal everything people spent decades building and get away with, get away with billions.

why rob a bank when you can rob a corporation and the idiots think you are their boss.

it's exactly the same thing as a bank robber, walking into a bank with a suit on and a nametag and the idiots think they are the boss and hand them all the money

Nah. Maybe back when companies had some loyalty to their employees, but those days are long gone.

You're likely to do better salary wise by moving around a lot now (assuming you're actually good at what you do).

corporate is ugly. I can't argue that. I've taken a few offers from big corporations to move from being an independent consultant/self employed to joining dark side and those periods of my life only lasted a few months each time.

the corporate ladder is entangled with vipers and monkeys with knives. If you can't be a 'yes man' that covers your bosses ass, then you CANNOT work in the big corporate world.

Small business is a different story. I'll stick with my conclusion that 80% of small businesses will abuse their employees as much as they can get away with. 20% are still run by real people that pay their employees a fair wage and reward good work.

I have some dissent, but I have arrogant snobby standards.
Ok, I made a deal with someone and things are great.
Something happens and i say i need you to drive or do something else, even with someone else.
So.....it is i who have altered the deal some, even of I needed to.

I believe in due consideration of that. Bezo way is beneath my family's dignity. If the new thing sucks, I ought to be sensitive to the helper and accomodate as much as I can even if I have to add something I didn't plan. As the alterer, I acknowledge that some of the burden is on me.

Close help is like a sweden before islam. If you want loyalty, quality and care, you earn the respect and demomstrate the higher regard of your helpers and retainers. The best are regarded and you want the best you can obtain "indoors"

That's not the blue collar independents in the field or barns or factory, because it won't work there, it is still the same calories, by a diffetent formula that sucveeds in the environment.

But the small crew, that you depend on and is in-house, thier quality of esteem and contentment is directly relative to what you will get. If its not, you dismiss that and get a better settle-in long term that's stellar and worth what they get

Re: You owe the person who hired you, loyalty.
You may get moved to other bosses, but ultimately, who ever is your direct manager or direct report has hired you or accepted you as part of their team. If there is weirdness there or his policy is not to your liking then YOU should move on if you cannot work it out.

This person accepted you to their team, they have put their own success partially, maybe wholeheartedly in your hands.

They owe you nothing, they could chose thousands of other people, yet they chose or choose you every day.

Ultimately you should mold your own work ethics, style and performance to their expectation. You two are a team, like it or not. He/she will take the pain and sometimes the heat from your failure or NOT. The not times come when you have disrupted the trust.

This is how you move ahead. Make your boss believe you are essential to their success and get THEM promoted. They will almost always bring you along. They were likely there where you are at some point, and they likely have a boss too. Help your boss make his boss happy.

This rant is n case no body ever opened your eyes before.

Feel free to thank me with your next promotion.

You do not owe them any more than they owe you. Do you fuggin job and if others are not doing theirs or making it harder to do yours, move on to a different company. No one owes a company anything that they do not have ownership interest in. Remember, they can fire most people at will for whatever reason they want and you will not get two weeks, unless you are training your foreign replacement.
