As in, died waaaayyy too young.

Lots of choices, sadly.

I think about this a lot. And out of everybody, from Jimi to John Lennon, and too many mention in between...

for me, honestly?

Hank Williams.

I think he would have really gotten pissed off at crappy 50's/60's pop, and would have single-handedly invented some form of rock and roll we can only imagine....

Except I *try* to imagine, but I can't hear it.

So I keep thinking about it.

1dunno1

My second choice, would actually be Hendrix, because he was SO DAMN GOOD he would definitely have played with everybody in the 70s and 80s (and 90s) had he lived, and I am 1000% sure he would have left his mark on metal, punk, 70s soul, country, prolly would have made a great record with Bob Marley.... oh yeah, can't you see it?

Can't you smell it?

I got a Dimebag story for yuh.

Just after he died, this radio station in Dallas played an interview with him, from the year before.

Among other things, Dime said his old lady started putting his shoes in the freezer when he was drinkin. He said he was always losing his shoes, lol, but she found a solution.

Good call, sir

I agree, Karen Carpenter. Even though as a prog rock fan, I think KC had the best female voice I ever heard.

Check out the YT on The Carpenters doing a cover of "Ticket to Ride" by The Beatles. This was recorded at Lake Tahoe the year before their first album was released. I think she as only 18 at the time.

He never made a record or recorded a song...or learned to play an instrument...plus he was tone deaf

I totally get that. And I agree. But, he lived twice as long as Jimi (or Hank) and actually did a fuck ton of recording.

I *WISH* we had 3,000+ shows of Henxrix, or Hank Williams.

So, yes, Jer died too young. But he did enough to where it doesn't hurt as bad as some of the others.

For me, anyway. And I LOVE Jerry, everything he ever did. And I'm glad that there's so much of him out there.

Do you have a favorite Garcia time period? For me, it would be about 1981-82-- top of his game, electric technique wise, (discounting nodding off), and have you heard his Oregon State Prison show, acoustic just him and John Kahn? I think that was '82. After that, he lost the edge, but hell, Lazy River Road was as good as any song he ever wrote.

I'm glad he died doing what he loved, and at least had enough white hair to suggest a life well-lived

Thank god for the Archive ;)

Good sweet LORD the 1980s would sure have been different.

If Skynyrd hadn't perished (essentially), they would have made at least 2-3 more GREAT albums.

Of this I have no doubt.

Okay, humor me. And I am curious.

How do you think his career/musical tragectory might have gone?

I know he was popular, but I never got all that much... raw substance, I guess, from his songs.

What can you hear? I am sincerely interested
