Only because she was so talented and a great cross-over artist.

I agree, Karen Carpenter. Even though as a prog rock fan, I think KC had the best female voice I ever heard.

Check out the YT on The Carpenters doing a cover of "Ticket to Ride" by The Beatles. This was recorded at Lake Tahoe the year before their first album was released. I think she as only 18 at the time.
