I employ exactly 0 secretaries. I actually care about every single one of my employees and work hard to allow them to grow their skills and advance within our company and their career as a whole. I spend 4 hours per week with open office hours mentoring anyone who cares to ask.

Most big companies pay bonuses to their executives in stock or other means where they don't have to pay taxes. Loophole, but these guys are on the run from the government their whole lives. It's expensive to follow the law and have no blood on your hands and sleep at night.

I like going over and talking crap and learning about what they do... I usually fix whatever they have going on (stupid quickbooks btw, always seems to be having issues every 6 months or so...) and when I do fix anything either hardware related or whatever, they try to give me 100 bucks, I only took it 2 time (been over about half a dozen times to fix little things over the years...) and feel bad about it, I really don't want the cash, just like doing stuff like that in the off hours. I see what he makes, and damn, I told him he should adopt me :) but anyway, if you like doing stuff, how do you get over that feeling? I could easily get paid bank for helping people with insurance and easy software stuff, but I would feel guilty about taking cash for it. I'm probably one of the "poor" people you are referring to... but I actually 100% agree with your premise.

This homer idea of "a few extra million to these rich people is nothing." I say bullshit it doesn't lol. Wealthy people in America still pay the majority of taxes $$$ wise. Politicans will leverage percentages as a way to spin agendas...but I'll look at actual dollar amounts.

The United States was not founded on the basis of punishing the more successful. Our tradition is best person gets the job...winners and losers. Winners prosper and losers don't. Don't like your place in life? Work your ass off to make something better. Here we have the opportunity to do such.

No, I don’t feel guilty because I’m providing a valuable service. I gotta eat too, right? I feel extremely LUCKY and even BLESSED. I also view this luck as a RESPONSIBILITY- to my employees, to my customers and to my family.

If I were to charge 10x my current prices then yeah I’d feel guilty. But I sell my products for a fair price that is demonstrably valuable to the customer. Nobody returns the product saying oh that’s not worth $200.

I hope that helps maybe a little with your personal quandary. Making money isn’t inherently bad. It’s how you do it, how you treat people and how you help others that counts.

I’m a self taught software developer, but my real skills lie in the ability to break down any business into a set of repeatable, scalable and efficient workflows and processes. I then turn that into software and businesses pay me so that they can operate more efficiently. My average customer tells us they save 5 hours per week managing their small business. They pay me $100/mo for that. Seems fair to me.
