Best Answer: To answer your boldface question: There may be countries out there where slavery was not the norm, but I couldn't name them for you. American Indians made slaves of other tribes. Likewise, almost every tribal culture from Africa to South Sea Islanders enslaved people of their own race, but different tribes. The Greeks had slaves. The Romans had slaves. The Vikings enslaved most of Europe. If that wasn't bad enough, the English made slaves of each other...they called them serfs, and indentured, but it meant the same. Have they encountered the level of retribution and blame heaped upon the USA? Never.
