It was all about the shoes. I remember when women walking from downtown parking lots to their buildings (maybe 1/4 mile or less) began wearing tennis shoes and carrying their nice shoes.

High heels cause foot problems. Yikes, I don't miss those days, but women's shoes have become more sturdily built. I still wear dresses on occasion and suffer through the shoes for that event.
