Death of Mars Rover = Empathizing AI?

There is a viral meme going around about the Mars rover that kicked the bucket after 15 years. Interesting nonetheless, but the viral tidbit goes as follows:

“My batter is low, and it’s getting dark”

That was the supposed prompt from the rover to command center, and the viral aspect of this quote is to infer personification and suggest human empathy towards AI.
