About that Detention Center in Texas... Gov't denies UN access
NEW YORK - The American Civil Liberties Union today called on the U.S. government to explain why it is denying a United Nations independent expert access to the Hutto immigrant detention facility in Taylor, Texas.

According to the U.N. human rights office in Geneva, Dr. Jorge Bustamante, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants, was scheduled to tour the Hutto facility on Monday as part of an official fact-finding mission. But according to news reports, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency is denying Dr. Bustamante access to the facility.

We are deeply disappointed that the U.S. government is not living up to its human rights commitments, said Jamil Dakwar, Advocacy Director of the ACLU Human Rights Program. The U.S. government claims it is a beacon for human rights, yet it keeps a shroud of secrecy over its own policies.

The USG picks and chooses which U.N. programs it will follow. Our goobermint can always be counted on to call upon the U.N. entities that deal with war, arms, and bloodshed. If the U.N. is useful in the spread of American Hegemony, the USG will use the U.N. However, the USG doesn't believe that the U.N. has any right to dictate internal affairs.

It's kinda two-faced, if you think about it.

yep, those would the ones.

what scares me about these centers is they are now set up for illegal aliens... okay, that's a hot topic, lots of people agree that illegals should be rounded up and sent back to where they came from

we get used to that idea and then what comes next? hot topic of political dissidents here in america...

and especiall since Bush recently put into law that he will be holding all the power to make every executive decision in the event of "something catastophic"- whatever that may turn out to be. Something contrived to prevent him from leaving office, something they are planning now for the election year so he won't have to leave office.

And just why should we give the UN any authority over the USA? Give them an inch and they will be all over us in ways none of us wants.

So there is an immigration center. So what? We used to have Ellis Island which kept immigrants until they were cleared to enter. This one is for illegals who have no right to enter. Most should be deported and as quickly as possible.

Why would the gov't go to all the expense of building detention centers for illegals when they are trying to make all the illegals legal? I can't say what the real reasons are, but detaining illegals isn't it.

Well,.. RE-EDUCATION KAMPS.

If you don't believe prevailing government and CMSM propaganda - your sent to a kamp and slapped around with a mix of torture and electric shock treatments.

If that does not turn your thinking around then you are disappeared or fed to the lions.

Democracy is not free - free thinking and free speech - do have their consequences.

Money makes the world go around.

There's a helluva lot of money in the private prison industry. Just as CCA, Wackenhut, KBR...
"Until you are willing to organize your friends and neighbors and literally shut down cities - drive at 5mph through the streets of major cities on the freeway and stop commerce, refuse to show up for work, refuse to borrow and spend more than you make, show up in Washington DC with a million of your neighbors and literally shut down The Capitol you WILL be bent over the table on a daily basis." Karl Denninger

Don't blame me; I voted for Ron Paul.
