With news of Republicans in the Senate lining up to block Trump’s latest move to call a national emergency to secure $7 billion to fund the border wall, Trump is threatening to exercise his veto power. A Democratic-controlled House and few Republicans who are willing to flip in the Senate are enough for this resolution to pass both chambers of Congress. Illinois Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth and Ohio Republican Jim Jordan expect this resolution pass the House and the Senate through simple majority votes. been nice if he would have used it on the open border bill.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77301115 Yes, he could have used veto power and sent it back but with these numbers of Yea votes from Congress Y-300- N-128 and Senate Y-83 N-16 it would only have delayed the passing once they voted a second time since a 2/3 majority makes it veto-proof. |
