Re: Steven Seagal's fighting skills are LEGIT
All choreographed. Watch Seagal. He points or gestures where he wants the guy to "attack".
Basically he is like a trained dancer. Going through the rehearsed motions.
 Quoting: Skoalman

YES. ITS A DEMONSTRATION!

He is pointing because he is telling them to come in certain way so he demonstrate a technique. Also, I think the guys he is working with are Russian, so they are probably not students of his, and he is directing them to assist in his demonstration.

I'm not bashing the discipline, i'm bashing a fat fucking actor.
 Quoting: Truth Reaper

Before he was an actor he was a marital artist and his students revered him, as did the japanese martial arts community which is no small feat for a white guy.

Yes he got fat and out of shape, but aikido lends itself to that as well, and he is no one that anyone would want to go head to head with in a real confrontation...both in his earlier days, and I suspect even now. But he is older, could have injuries, and his level of fitness is a big factor too, so can't say for sure. But who he used to be was no joke and no act.

Michael Jai White would kick Seagall's ass all over the place as he did in this movie scene.
The day the soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you stopped leading them.
They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care.
Either case is a failure of leadership.

Why isn't Dana White bidding on getting this man into the UFC? Could make some serious money. But I guess it wouldn't be fair to the other contenders...
 Quoting: tray ding

You are correct. Simply unsportsmanlike to have him clobber the other fighters. People would backlash against the gratuitous violence. Maybe if Seagal fought two or even three at a time it would be fair- but would the audience accept that? As well, Dana White doesn’t need his best fighters laying in hospitals for months. He needs them in the ring on a regular basis.
Seagal would wile out his “inventory” of fighters quickly- especially if he fights two or three at a time.
No, its best for the sport if Seagal sits out.
The one epic “exhibition” fight would be Mayweather AND MacGregor fight Seagal at same time. But alas, those two dudes would get broken up pretty bad. Sad end for two epic fighters.
One other good possibility of an ACTUAL FAIR FIGHT would be for Seagal the to fight a Male Adult Silverback Gorilla.
That is about the only truly competitive fight I can see where the outcome is iffy. A real nail biter, if you will.

That video is libelous. The segments showing the "reality" of Aikido do not even attempt to demonstrate Aikdio. Its either guys fucking around with their pals or mooks completely unrelated to Aikido. The mislabeling is criminal.

Aikido is based off of Japanese sword fighting where the goal was to kill your opponent in one move. In those old marital arts EVERY technique was designed to destroy a joint - wrist, elbow, neck - or limb - arm, leg - and then followed with a finishing blow with an edged weapon. Aikido developed a curriculum and a style of teaching so a person could learn to apply those technique with full force without hurting their partner. That is why the partner falls the way they do. They are protecting their body from damage. If the person stood there rooted to the ground as a wrist lock was applied with full torque and body weight behind it it would DESTROY all the ligaments, tendons, and muscles in their wrist. The other things a person learns is timing, movement, placement, and connection with their partners. Exactly what a swordsman would have to learn.
What people see in a demonstration and katas a learning TOOL and tying to understand Aikido from that is like trying to understand all there is to know about boxing by only watching a boxer hit a bag, jump rope, and shadow box.

Bwahahahaha there's a reason why you don't see Akido in MMA, because it's basically dancing choreography. Let's see what he can do when a skilled MMA fighter is actually punching and kicking him in the head and taking him to the ground. It would all be over in a couple of seconds. Akido is all "here grab my arm and then flip like this and roll like this" Pure theater for fuckwits. Sure there are a could of legit joint locks and such, but no one is going to piss around giving you there limbs to manipulate in a real fight unless they suck real bad.

Re: Steven Seagal's fighting skills are LEGIT
I was working for Troma on a Toxic Avenger sequel when Segal first came on the scene, and Lloyd hired a professional stuntman from Hollywood to do the high-falls and coordinate the fights. This was when Above the Law just came out, and we heard that all the stunt men on the pic walked away with broken wrists, noses, and ribs because Segal wouldn't pull his punches. Coincidentally it was that Troma flick that featured Michael Jai White's first film performance (I don't know where or how Lloyd found him - probably a walk-in audition). Everybody loved him: big, handsome, friendly, made an impression.

I disagree.

While I don’t disagree with your discussion about aikido, it’s not this video that is bad. It’s the “masters” pretending it’s something it’s not.

The “masters” have rigged demonstrations where guys fall down without being touched. The audience isn’t in on the con. I have seen videos where legit guys pound the masters.

Fighting is the individual. You can take a farmer that wrestled in high school that could beat a black belt. One black belt can beat another. A bad boxer could get in a lucky punch.

All martial arts are good training for technique and balance and fitness.

I was actually sucked in by Akido in my younger days but quit real quick when during sparring I kept putting the teacher in a choke and he kept chastising me telling me that's not allowed lol! No winning, no winning, lol. I did kyokushin for a while, that was far more realistic as we sparred hard full contact with pads tho and I'm glad or I would have been hurt every time. Boxing and Jujitsu is still the best IMHO.

Sorry, still won’t cut it. Maybe Norris and The whole Expendables crew.
But too big a blow to Hollywood when these guys are all in full body casts for half a year. Insurance companies wouldn’t allow it and I am sure there are millions of dollars of movie productions would get cancelled.
I simply cannot see a fair fight with any number of human martial artists.
About the only semi-expendable tough guys who could fight him are special operations men like Spetznaz or Marine Force Recon. They have signed on the dotted line for unlimited liability. Perhaps one fire team/4-6 men could do the fight. One round only. You would need to have a good talk with Seagal first to try not to break spines. Only single unmarried spec ops allowed in the ring. Maybe 4-6 isn’t enough to be fair. I don’t know.
Could 10 men fit in the ring? Do we just have the fight in a field?
