What's the greatest Generation X movie?
My criteria for this distinction is a film that was both written and directed by people from Generation X.

Since Generation X is defined as being people born from 1961 to 1981, I think the only possible choice is The Matrix. The Wachowskis wrote and directed the film, and they were both born in the mid-1960s. I can't imagine choosing any other film because The Matrix could be the most influential film ever made.

My second choice is Momento. It was written and directed by Christopher Nolan (born in 1970).

I think it's an underappreciated and misunderstood classic.

I don't think we'll ever get to the bottom of that. Have you seen this video? The movie The Walk is supposedly directly connected to Back to the Future. Any thoughts on that?

My choice for the greatest Generation X comedy is Tropic Thunder. Can anyone give me a more influential comedy in the last 30 years?

I guess
Pulp Fiction - Quentin Tarrantino
Dead Man Shoes - Shane Meadows
Rocknrolla/Snatch/Lock Stock n 2 smoking barrells - Guy Ritchie

You prob was spot on with the Matrix though op, but these 3 guys are Gen x'ers and make great movies, or used to at least hf

There are many comedies like that. Tropic Thunder transcended itself.

This will always be part of American culture:

The Tom Cruise character has done cameos outside the movie.

Yep, ticks all the boxes, films in this thread we will never see the likes of again sadly, far too pc nowadays to make a decent movie plus it's all about the $$ so minimum effort for maximum dollar etc.

Momento is one of my favorite movies. Such great story telling. I think Fight Club is important though. My theory is that’s what started Antifa. All these assholes sitting around bored with no meaning in their life, get inspired by the movie to start their own terrorist organization.

I believe it's a movie about how we all live our lives. We all base our lives on vague ideas about people, places, and things that are no better than that of the main character in Momento 99% of the time.

The tiny amount of knowledge that we have about almost everyone and everything around us is exactly like what the protagonist goes through.

When I realized that was the message of the film (for me), it became one of the most important films I've seen.

You can watch that film and instantly get a much better understanding of who you are (no matter who you are). There are only a handful of such films I've seen. The Matrix is one of them.

The absolute best movies are in order and why:

1. Blazing Saddles- will never see another movie with racial overtones and puns again in a comedy

2. Animal House- again will never see this type of comedy again

3. Caddy Shack- too many funny actors in one movie racial overtones

4. Superman and Star Trek- led the way for Marvel movies

5. A Christmas Story- still lives on for generations

6. Die Hard the basis of all action movies now

7. Raiders of the Lost Ark- basis for all adventure movies now

8. Johnny Dangerously- can prove that comedy and crime could be a successful movie

9. Terminator and Alien- proves that some movies can span decades

10. When harry met Sally -started the chick flick crap
