As commercial aircraft speeds get pushed higher, it is increasingly becoming too dangerous to subject civilian passengers to the types of conditions, pressures, etc one experiences at those speeds. We're starting to creep into 'military' territory where the only way to safely fly in those conditions is to have the specialized safety gear military pilots require. Shutting down commercial air traffic isn't a 'green' conspiracy to deprive - but a prudent policy that will be forced on the system as things continue to develop. Pay attention, too, to all of the meltdown passengers are having on aircraft. Oxygen deprivation and increasing turbulence due to atmospheric and magnetic field shifts are already showing their impact...
