Most church buildings are dead inside. The real church in the USA is mostly isolated individuals who worship and learn in their own homes. The future of the church in USA is underground.

This young person did. The churches are pretty empty from what I hear. It's not the only reason but I think I'd blame the Internet for why you people are leaving more than anything.

Christianity was sustained for centuries when the primary path of cultural transmission was the family and then the local community, including churches.

In the US this held pretty much together up through WWII and a little beyond. The public schools pretty much supported the parent-community model and did not advocate other forms of indoctrination.

All that has long been changed, starting in the 50's and rapidly spreading with the widespread insertion of the state/commerce/subversive groups into the household as a competing line of cultural transmission (indoctrination) during all waking hours - originally radio/TV and now all the electronic gadgets.

As a result, parents with traditional cultural views have been competing for decades with the state, commerce, and subversive groups for the minds of their children.

They are leaving churches and that is understandable. The wheat and tares are being separated hard right now.
