Have scooped up dead critters in the past and tossed into a neighbors yard, but it's broad daylight this time, lol.

It's a young animal, maybe 5 pounds, really suffering, expected it to be dead by now but it's been over an hour.

Thinking of getting it in a box, put the box in a trash bag and exhaust pipe it... might be the best I can do for it.

Damn, I do NOT want to have to handle it! I'm also afraid the disease could be tracked in the house and infect my cats.

DNR just called back, said I'll get sprayed if I do the box & exhaust pipe thing, suggested paying Critter Control or wait till it dies, double bag and put it in the trash.

Brutal, but maybe I'll have to go that route, like sharpen a stick and stab it in the heart.

Can't let it suffer anymore, but I can't kill an animal, every fiber in my being won't let me do that.

Can't you call the Humane Society to come and retrieve it? Euthanize and test it for rabies, etc.? Or...shall I ask the question: has 5G been activated in your area?

I'm guessing giving mouth to mouth to the skunk is out of the question?

Other cities have volunteer services for wildlife, not around here.

Humane society here only deals with pets.

If it's Distemper, its brain is already gone.

I'm more afraid of my cats getting Distemper now, only one of 3 has been immunized, only because he had his teeth worked on and the vet insisted just because he could catch it there at the clinic during his stay.

I'm stalling, obviously.

I had a raccoon come thourhg my yard like that it disappeared on it's own.

Rabies isn't something you want to fool with, are your pets vaxed for it just now? Do they go outside?

It's a beautiful day and ALL I planned on doing was clear off the patio for a new patio cover (downed limb destroyed old one) and clean up around back yard from the windstorm.

Never, ever wanted anything low caliber like a .22 until now.

Double bag like you described, then put it in the freezer.

Painless and fast. Much easier than the car exhaust and CO poisoning is not guaranteed on a new car. Clean exhaust.

I had to dispatch a possum (someone shot it incorrectly) and infection was killing it slowwwwwwwwly. I used a shovel, but with a possum it is easier to step on their head and jerk them up by their tail and break their neck....I wouldn't do that with a skunk

A peaceful way to dispatch an unwanted animal is in a bag hooked to a car exhaust, (not a diesel).

The bag fills with CO and an animal the size of a skunk is dead in one minute.

Then it is in a bag you can use to dispose of it.

Probably need to hit its head with a 2 x 4 first.

I've done the car exhaust thing with a dying critter once before. Worked at a pet food testing place once and that was the preferred method (CO gas canisters), have an older car and would go that route but then I read all about the Distemper virus... Holy Shit!!!

Distemper is basically the same as Parvo.

The virus can survive for up to a year IN THE YARD!

I sucked it up and called Critter Control after putting a bag-lined box over it using a bamboo pole and a loop created from tape on the bottom of the box.

I don't want to get anywhere near where a Distemper animal is dying or has died and need to mix a garden sprayer with 1 part Clorox and 30 parts water to try disinfecting the patio, side yard, front area, etc.

"Adam" should be here before 6 PM.
