He had been on BP meds for years, then when he found out his blood sugar was really high too, he buckled down and got very serious about his health. The "Create Your Plate" diet and getting exercise by swimming worked for him. He had fallen away from exercising after we moved to the tropics, because it's too hot and humid here. Then we just looked at each other and said, wait a minute, there's a swimming pool nearby. So he can exercise without feeling like he's going to pass out from the heat. |

This is true. It's not a good idea to stop taking the meds, until your BP starts dropping. My husband was able to get off his BP meds due to changing his diet and lifestyle, but he didn't start reducing the meds until his blood pressure began falling. He kept losing weight and getting healthier, then he would feel dizzy and find that his blood pressure was low, so his doctor would cut the dosage of the meds. Then it would happen again, and the meds would be reduced more, and this went on until finally he didn't need them anymore. My husband never went off the meds on his own though, and he did not stop taking them when his blood pressure was still high. It was only when it got too low that the cuts were made by his doctor who was very happy to see my husband taking charge of his health. Even now we still keep tabs on my hubby's BP and blood sugar to make sure it's still normal, and he's been off the meds for a couple of years. |

Tried natural, did weight loss, nothing worked and had to go on BP pills 15 yrs ago. I take the lowest dose and all the vits and natural remedies still, including tumeric with a pinch of black pepper which increases its strength 5o fold.After a couple of years, I rejected the current pilland they give me another and that one two years ago was Metroprolol.(Also valsarten) I always hold the pills in my hand and pray over them asking God to make them work w/o harm. I didnt like the feel of it, but had a slight cardiac "event" months before so I took them, lowest dose possible. Got into surgury immediately and biopsy was ok. I think it gives our body a break from foods we may be allergic to or that are causing problems for whatever reasons. Some foods we genetically can’t handle but have no idea until they are eliminated. So just eating meat for awhile at least will rule out a lot of allergies that could raise blood pressure. Protein is hard on the kidneys, and people with high blood pressure are already prone to kidney damage. I really think the best diet in this case would be something along the lines of the "Create Your Plate" diet. That's what brought my husband's weight, blood sugar, and blood pressure down to normal. It's simple to follow. One fourth of your plate is meat or a protein food, one fourth of the plate is starch or grains, and half the plate is non-starchy veggies. In my case, I'm no spring chicken and do have my share of health issues, but my blood sugar is perfect and blood pressure is on the low normal side. I eat a pescatarian diet that also includes organ meats. This diet has helped a lot with the health issues I've been dealing with that started when I got "floxed" due to another nasty pharamaceutical, fluoroquinolone antibiotics. My diet is primarily ovo-lacto-vegetarian with limited carbs and only fermented dairy products, like plain kefir. I avoid soy, sugar, and grains. A few times a week, I eat fish, and a few times a month, I eat organ meats, like liver or sweetbreads. For supplements, I take Vitamin C and Magnesium Citrate. The magnesium works wonders, and I would recommend magnesium to anyone with blood pressure problems. Thanks,all good info. Magnesium is good for restless leg and cramps also, but somehow my body over stores Magnesium so I cant take any extra. I also have Lupus and can have severe flares, yet am almost 80 while "healthy-doctor seeing" friends are gone.I'm a lifelong vegetarian, from age 3, Just before my third birthday I had a dream/vision about people far away (turned out to be China)dying from bird's disease.So my Ojibwe Grandmother said i should never eat fowl or even meat. My "good MD" when I was diagnosed with Lupus, said that being a vegetarian probably accounted for my good result with it. He does test my B-12 levels and i supplement with that. Fermented foods are great. I use Colloidal silver and get the cancer fighting Ojibwe tea once a year from Herbal Healer.com (Four herb Tea)as a preventative. I might add I wish I knew how to send a photo because my dear husband is ten years younger and people think he's my dad, LOL.No smoking, no drinking (except thanksgiving and new years toasting) no meat,(Fish rarely), Laughter and loving my husband. family and our dearLord can give you a good mostly healthy long life. amdg Forgiveness means giving up every hope for a better past, In exchange for a better future.
