The second amendment has to be looked at in respect of the time it was written. In was not put in place to allow a man to hunt for food. That was a given, like taking the next breath of air was a given and required no constitutional allowance. The second amendment was put in place so a man could shoot soldiers. And, the soldiers they had in mind were their own governments soldiers. That is what our founding fathers, geniuses all, had just finished doing. Killing their own governments soldiers ie British soldiers.

It seems they understood that over time a government can lose touch with it's purpose and people and attempt to usurp the rights of its citizens. Hence the absolute need for the second amendment in a free society will never die. The key phrase here being 'free society'.

'Assault Rifle' is a military weapon with select fire capability. i.e., full automatic or burst fire.

'Assault Weapon' is a term created by the MSM and liberal legislators to define a semiautomatic civilian weapon that simply LOOKS like a military weapon, but does not have the same functionality.

The terms are not interchangeable, although the MSM does it daily.
