Its a Red Dawn type fantasy. One group of midwestern hillbillies take on Armored platoon of Russian Special Forces. Yeah that will go real well for them in real life. One tank round and your house is gone.

A vast guerrilla army composed of thousands of autonomous and semi-autonomous companies will be far more effective than you think. Expect massive defections from the military. Many high ranking officers and their subordinates have no love for anti American commie types. I suspect most key air wings and armored divisions would defect.
