Are You Seeing Luke Perry Memorial Billboards Around Your City?
I saw one by Clear Channel today, but...the picture wasn't resized properly and it cut off his head...just saw his torso.

It was weird.

How do they make a massive digital mistake like that?

Lastly, who paid for them? He wasn't THAT prolific of an actor...just the best actor on a popular mainstream show back in the days when cable TV used to suck so you HAD to watch Fox for cutting edge shows.

======

OMG. I finally found that shit! New Mexico news station posted the pic...like who DOES this and why didn't they send out a corrected billboard? Aren't these things on wifi connections? Its like a big arse TV on the side of the road!

Saw one in the Chicago area yesterday, had his torso and upper legs but the head was cut off as well, weird, I’ve never seen a billboard memorial for a dead actor before.

yeah. seems like there was more hoopla over him than other actors that have died. I don't get it either.

Unless they were going to use him to launch the new 90210 coming up, which was old and new actors, and he was in it.

Maybe they already had the advertisements and are using his death to promote the new show? that would be tacky.

Exactly, he was a big star in the early 90’s but most people today don’t know who he is. That’s why it’s weird to see a billboard in memory of him.

Recently dead Peter Tork of the Monkey's was more famous. No Billboards for him. Carol Channing, huge... no Billboards. Stan Lee, no billboards. Burt Reynolds, not a one.

Maybe he dies of a stroke in the New 90210 and the billboards play into the story line. Oh wait, he wasn't cast.

Maybe it will be like Big Chill and Luke will be Kevin Costner and they are all at a funeral.

Well I guess its clear they didn't have super fans any more who cared enough to pay a million for the one day billboard. Secondly, this may surprise you but Stan Lee's characters didn't make HIM famous, only comic fans knew whom he was by name or face.

I really hope this does NOT become a trend...I saw it twice to day, coming down the interstate in a major Southern city and then when I got to the exit, it was up again on the changeable LED billboard...I'm sure angry fans snapped a pic.

I was so perplexed I didn't even think to take the picture...one thing about that show, teens and young adults from all socioeconomic backgrounds watched that show...I guess the cast was like the Beatles of the early 90s, is the only way I could explain it.

Jesus Christmas...in 20 years we'll be seeing billboards saying "RIP to the Homies" for any random people who can afford to pay for the advertisement space. This is a BAD precedent...like super bad. This would only make sense in Los Angeles, not nation-wide. This cost MILLIONS easily...maybe Aaron Spelling's wife paid for it, Lord knows they owe Luke Perry a mint for his part in increasing their net worth to $600M. Luke's face made a LOT of people filthy rich...crazy how he stayed humble.

why spend millions and then fuck it up with something as stupid as a jpg that's sized wrong? Did they outsource the billboards to India?

I have no idea...I have been checking social media and images all day, NOBODY else seems to have taken a picture of this massive fuck up! It was so disrespectful to him and whomever PAID for the Clear Channel ads.

Lamar ran ads as well that came out nice, I saw pics of that online but everybody on redd!t is like, did he have ties to our area, why the fuck is this up? who paid?

All I can imagine is maybe he was a silent large shareholder in the billboard companies or something? Or maybe he was somebody important's son/relative that we never knew he was related to?

This is one of those "nobody will believe me because I didn't take the picture" kind of things...There are 5M people in my city...somebody HAD to see that error and snap a pic.

Maybe they will be up tomorrow.

Re: Are You Seeing Luke Perry Memorial Billboards Around Your City?
Perry was also Archie's dad on Riverdale so his popularity with the millenials was huge as well. And don't forget how huge he really was in the 90s. The new James Dean, although I never got it.

Perry also stayed busy with his career in such a wide variety of things, including voice acting and christian cartoons...he really was everywhere.

He was supposed to be really down to earth and everyone that met him said how nice a guy he was. Including all the stage workers and normal people he dealt with. He also came from a blue collar family and had several siblings and one may have worked for the cable company or he invested in it.

It's weird until you remember how much this guy was liked by normal people in and out of the industry and how much he avoided all of of Hollyweird's BS. And the outpouring on twitter was from all sorts of people...so random in many cases. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the kids he worked with paid for them either though.

People who invoke "our democracy" really mean "their power." We are not now, nor have we ever been, a democracy. That's deliberate Communist word shifting. We are a constitutional republic.

Perhaps his death is a reminder of mortality to Generation X? Or a symbol of youth which has passed through time into middle age and early death.
